[history]
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is working with state Democrats to revamp a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, a politically fractious issue that contributed to the ousting of his predecessor.
Three months after securing a repeal of Senate Bill 60, the highly criticized bill approved by former Gov. Gray Davis, Mr. Schwarzenegger is working to craft substitute legislation, which would address national security concerns and ensure that drivers carry insurance, with Democratic state Sen. Gil Cedillo.

I have a brilliant idea:
Instead of a valid California driver's license, let's give illegal aliens a photo I.D. that says "PLEASE ARREST AND DEPORT ME IF YOU FIND ME CARRYING THIS CARD".
Since it is in the hated english language, they won't know what it says.

Schwarzenegger is working to craft substitute legislation, which would address national security concerns and ensure that drivers carry insurance, with Democratic state Sen. Gil Cedillo. The wording of this tells me it is a total sham. In Kali, insurance is carried on the car, not on the driver. If I lend my car to someone else & they have an accident, my insurance company or I am responsible for the damage to others' property, or their injuries.

Those who support driver's licenses for illegals argue that the issue boils down to public safety. Illegal immigrants are going to drive no matter what...Illegal immigrants are going to break the law no matter what.
"And I think they want to comply with the law where they can." [Mr. Savage said.]
And I think they only comply with the law when it's convenient for them to do so.

We'll take this bill to a referendum if it passes. And we'll vote out of office ANY Republican who votes to license illegal aliens.

Mr. Schwarzenegger signaled support for new legislation at a luncheon in January in Sacramento, when he said he was "absolutely positive we'll come up with a great bill"To be immediately followed by the clatter of the governor's popularity rating as it smashes into the ground.
WHat will it take to convince the elites that Californians don't WANT this bill.
Good thing Arnold's bond measures are being voted on today, 'cause he won't be able to influence the election of dog catcher after the 'new, improved' SB60 gets passed.

"With the jobs and hours these folks work, they really don't have a choice but to drive," They have the choice to move home where they belong. They chose to break a laundry list of laws out of self interest. Why should anyone - especially the state - be interested in assisting them?
It's a short drive to the border. They can even take their cars with them; Mexican registration is a joke. Hell, they can just tell the Federal Judicial Police that they stole it in Los Angeles - that ought to get a few congratulatory backslaps.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is working with state Democrats to revamp a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses,What is there to revamp? Isn't this a rather simple decision? There are 2 choices: 1)Illegals get licenses or 2)Illegals do NOT get licenses.
And doesn't Arnie-poo understand that the license issue was a major factor in Gumby getting the boot?

Yep, but it makes a good soundbite, doesn't it. You said it... "Total Sham"
The "background checks" are equally vacuous. How exactly are they going to check background, on what information will they rely, and how much would that cost?

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is working with state Democrats to revamp a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, a politically fractious issue that contributed to the ousting of his predecessor. At least when Davis WASN'T under political pressure, he voted AGAINST Gil Cedio.
Any chance we can get Gray Davis circa first term back????
Seriously, this actor actually sent propoganda to my house before the recall because I am a registered Repub, with a checklist. One of the 3 things was the repeal of SB60.
I was 90% certain this was carefully crafted flim flam for the suckers in the GOP and voted for McClintock, now I am 100% certain. This politician is resurecting the same bill betraying his constiuency before a single year has passed? Am I the only one outraged by this?
