This is great. I am so happy for Mel Gibson and the marketing strategy is perfect (the free advertising not withstanding): open on Ash Wednesday and run through Lent climaxing with Easter. Of course that won't be the end but this period will obviously be the strongest.

Today I looked through my local leftist newspaper and not one story or short blurb. Nothing. Zero. Nada. Here we have official numbers that verify The Passion as the fastest five-day gross not just for a Wednesday opening but in history and they totally ignore this major story. plenty on the Oscars so that must have been their excuse. I'll check tomorrow when there is no Hollywood-lovefest to report on.

The scene of the Marys cleaning up Jesus' blood was very moving for me. I would like to know if this was a custom of the time, and done out of love or shame, although for Mary, Jesus's mother, I felt it was out of love.

Yes. She is mopping up the precious blood, so that it's not "cast before swine." This came from Emmerich's "Dolorous Passion." It's certainly plausible.

I heard today that Pilate's wife hands Mary the towels expecting Pilate to release Jesus. The towels were to be used to clean Jesus. This also comes from Emmerich.

My girlfriend and her husband saw it yesterday, while I watched their kids. She took her eldest daughter to see it this morning and found it more moving and awe inspiring the second time.

My husband and I saw it tonight. I'm a chatty person by nature, and I am still stunned to a near speachlessness. It's going to be days before I can think about it without tears clogging my throat, before I absorb the enormity of it.

Put it this way, I am re-examining my relationship with God. It's been particularly one sided. He's done all the giving, and I have vowed to change that immediately.

In a word: profound.

So many people are being turned away from sold-out Passion performances, they're buying tickets for their second choices.

My husband and I saw it this evening. We had to buy our tickets yesterday because it was sold out till tonight.

I'm glad we did. Our showing was sold out by the time we got there. The show after us was sold out, judging by the line waiting to get in to our portion of the megaplex, it wrapped back on itself.

I bought some soda before the show and asked the concession girl how the movie was doing. She said it had sold out for every showing since they started playing it. She had also seen it on her day off, and was encouraging her friends (teenagers) to see it to. She warned me to be prepared to cry.

I didn't cry - I sobbed, I gasped, I curled into my chair in horror and silently begged for it to stop. I wept until my hands, back, shoulders, and jaw ached from trying to keep it in. The lady beside me also wept, crying out, "No! No!" during the height of the scourging and during the crucifixtion.

I am drained, spent, exhausted - and will recommend this film to anyone who has even a passing belief in Christ.

I can't help but compare the success of the Passion to the success of the Left Behind series. One of the Left Behind books was the best-selling fiction book of 2001. Although they have sold millions of books, their success did not fundamentally change the publishing industry in any way. Unfortunately, this will likely happen with Passion as well. Can anyone really see Hollywood producing Biblically sound films?

That's one perspective I've not seen, yet. I'm a wuss with things like that, so I'm glad you've prepared me for it.

I saw a review that Ebert had the other day, and he offered something I had not seen before, as well. He pointed out that this was all in God's plan. I knew that, but had not seen it reviewed that way before. Even today, I've not seen another review along those lines. Of course, Evangelicals know that, and that's why we hold no hard feelings for His sacrifice.

I am really looking forward to, and dreading, seeing it. I WILL see it, though. We are waiting for daughter to have a little break from exams. Then, she will get a babysitter so that hubby, daughter, son-in-law, and I can view it together.

Screw this money crap and that's all I see on FR. What really matters is how God is working in the people that have seen the movie. Pray for them big time. There's a working of God here and you people are talking about money? What's a dollar worth to God? Nothing. He wants souls to come to Him and accept His Son Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
