It depends on the principles. This most recent example of the California GOP's periodic explosions of xenophobia and racism got it killed afterwards.

Governor Schwarzenegger could not have won a statewide GOP primary because he's a RINO. Face it, LOSER is a synonym for those who apply the term RINO to other Republicans.

I used to be a Democrat and changed parties because I just couldn't stand their anti-Americanism anymore. One of the things I carried with me from my Democratic past is a preference for winning as opposed to losing.

Most California Republican primary voters would rather have all or almost all of their statewide candidates lose, as in 1998 and 2002, than admit there is a problem with their principles.

I say it is a disgrace that Barbara Boxer is still in the U.S. Senate, and I'd happily beat her with a "yellow dog" (reference to yellow dog Democrats) if that is what it takes to win.

Winning is better than losing in campaign politics. Much better.

Tom DeLay shares that winning attitude. Nobody accuses him of being a RINO. RINOs are indeed losers because they throw overboard reasons for conservatives to prefer them to Democrats in the hope of gaining swing votes who really want *leadership* and how can you be a 'leader' failing to stand for anything controversial? Yet the Democrats stay energized when moderates run. when faced between the choice of 2 Democrats the real one wins every time. Ask Senator Matt Fong if you doubt me. :-)

"This most recent example of the California GOP's periodic explosions of xenophobia and racism got it killed afterwards." That's a liberal media view of what happened; ad hominem perception not the reality of such things, which are created by the media. That spin is only countered if you have the intelectual spine to counter unfair lies. It is never countered when the GOP is too intellectually feeble to respond or even worse plays into liberals' hands by validating such ad hominem attacks ( as you sadly do). Like or dislike prop 187, it is a lie and a slander to say it is 'racist' - its about upholding the law (and we can see what a mess our immigration system is in due to failure to uphold that law). The truth is, the most anti-racist man in america is Ward Connerly. ... but you wont hear that from the media. We shouldnt cry about that unfairness, we should fight it.

We need to defend honorably positions that defend freedom and conservative values. we wont win all races but we will win more races running on a positive and meaningful agenda. In the end, WINNING THE BATTLE OF IDEAS REQUIRES THAT YOU HAVE IDEAS, DEFEND IDEAS, AND CHALLENGE THE WRONG IDEAS OF THE OTHER SIDE.

If California Republican leaders can do that, they can win. If they dont, they will lose. It's that simple.

Besides that, have you seen how the GOP is ``organized'' in this state? Have you been ton different central committee meetings? They are terrible and manage to raise a pittance.
