Hell, I'll grant him the Bronze Star for pulling the SF guy out of the river.......but the Silver Star for shooting a downed VC is a little much...

Two medals --- and only one probable kill...
After all - the way I hear the story - the VC hit by the crew's .50s was BEHIND or in the hootch.... The poor VC was probably already assuming room temperature by the time Kerry got to him -- and galantly fired his weapon to impress his crew on the beached boat... I NEVER heard or witnessed any of the PBR crews beaching their boats during a firefight --- that is the height of madness -- extreme stupidity!

I would love to read the commendation, and learn who DRAFTED it and who submitted it --- and what relationship they had to the brave Lt. Kerry....

With all due respect, not so. Here's why:
As skipper of that boat, it was Lt. Kerry's duty to go back and try to save that or any person who got blown off his boat or who otherwise went overboard - under any condition. To not go back would have been a dereliction of his duty and a punishable offense.

That info was posted a here a while back by an ex-sailor who was also a boat skipper.
