Springsteen torture at Camp X-Ray
01Mar04
A TERROR suspect freed from Guantanamo Bay has told of cruel and unusual punishment.
Hamed Abderrahman Ahmad, a Spaniard who denies any links with terrorism, said he had to wrap his head in a damp towel to try to muffle loud tapes of Born in the USA.
Mr Ahmad said he was confined to a small cell where the lights were always on and he was forced to listen endlessly to Bruce Springsteen.
"First I spent a month in a cell two metres square that had a roof of sheet iron, with unbearable heat," he said.
"All day they blared patriotic American music. It was Born in the USA. We had to put wet towels on our heads to be able to bear the heat and not hear the music . . .
"Later they put us in even smaller cells."

Not counting the bubble gum/kiddie pop music of the time the '60s had some great music which lasted into the early '70s then something went wrong. The bands that came out in the mid -late 70s so annoyed my ears that I found I couldn't go more than 3 or 4 songs per radio station before I was forced to roll the dial. Then in the 80s screechy heavy metal came on strong - silly looking, spandex wearing, big hair bands with screaming replacing singing and obnoxious bashing replacing music so I switched to jazz, blues and classical when I wasn't listening to the old R&R on record or tape. I hated to give up R&R but one can't listen to the same old records every day all your life. So in a way I'm grateful to Springsteen and the other "artists" of the period for forcing me to seriously explore other genre's that I had only dabbled in before though I still can't forgive them for the "muzak" they made.

Can I interest you in a "MacArthur Park," perhaps? I only took it to the grocery store and to church on Sundays.

The Richard Harris or Donna Summer version? I'll trade it straight up for "Muskrat Love." Your choice of either America or Captain and Tennille performing. Someone left my cake out in the rain ping.

More music for the listening pleasure of the "detainees" at Camp X-ray. Enjoy!

I am not worthy. You are a true connoisseur of junk, and I mean that as the highest of compliments. I won't even ask about your Jack Webb musical collection.

Pat Boone's covers of "Paradise City" and "Crazy Train" are perhaps the funniest recordings ever produced. The man is a master of self-effacing humor.

For my money, you can't beat Michael Bolton's version of when A Man Loves a Woman...
I celebrate the guys entire catalogue.
