"KERRY: Well, God will -- look, I think -- I believe in God, but I don't believe, the way President Bush does, in invoking it all the time in that way. I think it is -- we pray that God is on our side, and we pray hard. And God has been on our side through most of our existence."
This is such a great example of where the leftist mainstream media has created such a bubble for these Dems by never asking real tough questions or asking a reasonably tough question then never going with the obvious follow-up. I didn't see the debate but I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry had a look akin to, "Hey, I can't believe you're putting me in this position." This also shows that Kerry was unprepared in a situation where he himself and his handlers should have pondered and answered any concievable question. In this case, so-called Catholic Kerry should have known of the quote from Abe Lincoln as posted above (not whether god is on our side but whether we are on God's side.)

I believe in God, but I don't believe, the way President Bush does What jumped out at me is this phrase "I believe in God but ...".
First, there are no 'butts' when one confesses they believe in God. To add a "butt" after such a confession is weird.
Secondly, I found it strange that he had to state that he believes in God in the first place. He should have started that that was assumed and take off from there. But to say "I believe in God, but ..." sounds like he's trying to convince himself and sounds apologetic. Is he ashamed of the gospel.
Thirdly, he always has to play politics and disagree with everything Bush says or believes in. Here he says he believes in God but not the way Bush does. It comes across as tacky. He better gets some lessons from Clinton or he's toast. Clinton would not have wasted ammo on such a softball pitch and feel compelled to have to disagree with every single thing he opponent said or believed in. Clinton was a strong and savvy enough politician to sometimes say he agreed with his opponent but then find a slicker way of stating his views and make himself look impressive while even agreeing with his opponent. Kerry still attempts high school debate tactics. Perhaps because he has no core views and is just "debating". You know, like one of those obnoxious "debater" types that just want to argue just to argue.
Also, if Bush has said something like that, the dems would be claiming that Bush attacked Kerry's faith.
