Peter King: Kerry Backed Pre-emptive Iraq Attack in '97
Newsmax ^ | 2/29/04

Posted on 02/29/2004 11:22:02 AM PST by areafiftyone

During a 1997 debate on CNN's "Crossfire," Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry made the case for launching a pre-emptive attack against Iraq, according to Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who appeared with Kerry on the program.

King recounted the debate for WABC Radio's Monica Crowley on Saturday, recalling that at the time, the U.N. Security Council had just adopted a resolution against Iraq that had been watered down at the behest of the French and the Russians.

Back then, however, the candidate who now criticizes President Bush for ignoring French and Russian objections to the Iraq war, criticized the two countries – saying they were compromised by their business dealings with Baghdad.

According to King, Kerry argued: "We know we can't count on the French. We know we can't count on the Russians. We know that Iraq is a danger to the United States and we reserve the right to take pre-emptive action whenever we feel it's in our national interest."

"Crossfire" transcripts from 1997 are no longer available, but King said he'd share a copy of the Kerry tape with Crowley, who said she looked forward to broadcasting it. Stay tuned.

I don't know who is worse: Clinton or Kerry.

Wonderful piece! But I have to wonder about the transcripts no longer being available, CNN probably sent them to the DNC headquarters as soon as they realized there might be a future problem with them, McAuliffe is probably storing them Hillary's billing records.

" "Crossfire" transcripts from 1997 are no longer available,"

BS. They are still available ,CNN just won't release them. CNN is protecting Kerry, like the other MSM. Russert and NBC refuse to release the 1971 MTP tape showing Kerry eagerly admitting to committing war crimes. You can bet the farm, that if CNN had a transcript of a Crossfire show that tarnished President Bush-it would be front and center.

And to think there was a chance GWB might have had to run against Dean. Say what you want about to about Howard, the fact is at least he believed in something. Kerry believes in everything...or nothing, depending on who he's talking to at the time...or not...well, maybe...kinda...never mind.

Sooooo .. are we going to prove once and for all that the attacks against our President ARE PURE PARTISIANSHIP POLITICS ..??

I sure hope so!!

However, it can go either way. It can make Kerry look tougher on terrorism, or it can make him look wishy-washy, only being FOR the pre-emption when there is a dem for president, and AGAINST the pre-emption when there is a repub for president. I wonder how people will read the statement?

The only problem is that this not the mainstream press. This will never be shown to anyone outside of Newsmax. Unless the general public reads Newsmax this will go no further.
