City Seizes Gun Club

The Springfield (MA) Revolver Club is being prevented from using the building which has been their headquarters since before 1924. It has been believed for many years that Smith and Wesson gave the property and original test range to the City of Springfield with the understanding that it would be used for the continuation of pistol shooting.

The property is administered by the Park Department and was named Wesson Park in honor of Walter Wesson, one of the original park commissioners. A park department publication states, "Wesson is remembered in a little known corner of park land off Wilbraham Road at the corder of Roosevelt Avenue which was acquired after his death and is very appropriately occupied primarily by an indoor range used by the Springfield Revolver Club." However, there is no written record of stipulations on the use of the land. The city has prevented continued use of the range for over a year and there is little expectation of returning.

As the club, one of the oldest in the U.S. and home of several Olympic medalists and many winning teams, may consider making some of their equipment available to assist another club (sic). Equipment includes bullet traps, target carriers with turning and timing mechanisms, and steel plates.

For additional information, contact club president Les Prentice at 413-783-6775 or Kldnx@arrl.net

If the land was deeded with proper covenants and a clause indicating that the land reverts to the descendants if it is ever not used for the shooting range

Perhaps I am wrong but a good liberal lawyer who shopped around for the right judge could perhaps dig up the old news articles that proved Mr. Wesson’s intent when he donated the land.

Then this rabid liberal lawyer could get a judgement from the shopped for judge favorable to the gun club.

That’s what the libs would do anyway.

Hmm, very similar to the manner in which the eco-nuts and kalifornia betrayed the intent of the people who donated the town of Bodie.

It was clearly spelled out that the surrounding area should continue to be mined. Kali. made sure that NO mining can be done for several miles around.

People need to stop donating property to Gov. Org.!

Too often the property is not even really a donation, much more likely the product of Gov. Org. intimidation.

This **** disgust me.

god knows how much taxes they pay to be treated like crap

Taxes ultimately paid by gunbuyers, most of which are in the south, west, and midwest (Including western PA).
