NO MEL GIBSON AT OSCARS
Sun Feb 29 2004 13:01:38 ET
A major no-show at tonight's Academy Awards in Hollywood will be Mel Gibson.
The Executive Producer of the program, Joe Roth asked the filmmaker of PASSION OF THE CHRIST to present an award, knowing it would create unforgettable sparks.
The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed.
His representatives said Gibson was too busy to attend because it was the movie's opening weekend.

Hollywod is irrelevant.
The fact is that Hollywood needs Gibson more than Mel needs Hollywood.
By not showing, Mel just gave Hollywood an "up yours".

Does Hollywood understand that it follows in the steps of the UN, in being totally irrelevant? Mel's sending that message, isn't he? But it could be interpreted as cowardice. At least that's the way that the media will play it.

it would've been good for our cause to see them screw up by booing Gibson because it would've made people more aware of what Hollywood is all about. Yes.

I love it. The more they attack him and the movie the more people will see it. Thank you Hollywood Left.

At mass this morning, our priest made comments about the movie, "The Passion." He cautioned us ignorant, unwashed, potential Jew haters in the pews to be aware that the Church does not hold the Jewish people to blame for Christ's death. Gee, I am so enlightened now. Well, our priest told us to see it and devoted part of the homily to it. So there are good ones out there.

'They will be so green with envy that this "Christian movie" made more(I'm projecting) than anything they turned out, that they won't even nominate the film for best costume.'
I think you're right...they're frantically looking for something they can vote for in place of "The Passion" next year ("Finding Nemo's Luggage"). And you're right about Mel breaking out of the Hollywood box (see: Pandora)...and they hate that worse than the movie!

The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed. There are few things I would enjoy more than standing in front of a Hollywood audience and being booed.
Boo-me Hollywood!

They're going to run scared. People hunger for movies that have meaning. Adam Sandler is a hoot, but most folks want to see something with real meaning. Watch for Mel to lead the trend towards more intelligent and soul satisfying fare. The idiots will crap their pants when their profit margins go *poof*!

You know, after seeing the Passion I am moved to be a better catholic in ways I can't explain, but this little smarmy punk's comments... God forgive me for saying this but, "Hey Roth, you, me, a room, five minutes ia all I ask you little punk." Lord keep me humble.

....but I'm sure Sean Astin will be there to talk about the horrors of the Bush Administration. Sean Astin is a Republican. He was misquoted before some awards show in talking about what his brother was saying against Bush, not himself.

Sean Astin is a Republican. He was misquoted before some awards show in talking about what his brother was saying against Bush, not himselfSean Astin was on "Fox and Friends" this week talking about the Oscars and his family. When the subject of politics came up, he was extremely careful not to say anything that could indicate which way he leans. I had the feeling he was either 1) a liberal, knew conservatives watch the show and didn't want to get blasted, or 2) he was sensitive about the subject for some reason.
If Sean got misquoted and hammered for it, that would explain why he appeared to be walking on eggshells.
