February 28, 2004 -- Besieged shock jock Howard Stern taunted his government critics yesterday by skipping his usual congressional and FCC attacks and tearing right into the top guy - President Bush. Stern also said he fears his "suspension" last Wednesday by radio behemoth Clear Channel has turned into a firing.

"However, I'm not sure he [Stern] is appropiate for the public air waves."

Exactly the point.

SCHMUCK
A clumsy or stupid person; an oaf.

[Yiddish shmok, penis, fool, probably from Polish smok, serpent, tail.]

Howard ...You are a big SCHMUCK!

"My kid and I may turn off the set or channel, but what of the other group of indifferent parents who don't know or care about 13 year old mush-brained Johnny watching..."

Listen to yourself. You contradict yourself. You don't want government bureaucracy in principle. But you care about "the children." So you impose laws upon others to protect them. That is the definition of the nanny state. It's either-or. Either you uphold freedom of speech in all realms, or you don't. Once you let the government define unfree speech, then eventually tyranny will triumph.

As easily as you can say that the majority of Americans don't like his show, I can just as easily say that the majority of Americans love his show. Neither one of us has the numbers to back up our points.

I think the concern is that these corporations own many different channels of entertainment, and they don't want the fallout from the smut channel to cause people to boycott the other channels.

Nah, I think the Corporate bigwigs actually tuned in once and were horrified.

LOL! Hardly! Most of the current crop of "corporate bigwigs" couldn't give a rat's rearend what is being sold, be it Q-Tips or human flesh, it's all the same to them.

Care for an example? Rupert Murdoch, that defender of the faith, turned down domestic distribution of The Passion of the Christ back last September. No matter what his PR folks said, he turned it down because he didn't think it would make enough m$ney to make it worth the effort. Well, he was bloody wrong and now it looks as though he snapped up the foreign distribution rights on the first day of showing.

For most of the corporate honchos it's money that drives their decision making process.

Since when, Wes??

The US has enforced obscenity laws and engaged in censorship since Plymouth Rock.

This is from another thread posted here today:

Howard Stern on his radio program today stated that anyone who goes to see the movie "The Passion of the Christ" is stupid & ignorant. He went on to say that these Jesus Freaks have to be kept out of government and that we need to get Bush out of the White house.

He blames his problems with his filth on the air on the Bush administration and "hopes that Americans realize that Kerry would do just as good a job as president as Bush and we need to clean house so that his "program" can continue to be on the air and is cutting edge."

Now for your turn:

...but we do like to laugh. i find howard honest (he admits to his sadness over the divorce, and visits to his psychiatrist). he isn't a hypocrite. i know that for a fact. if you've never listened to him your criticisms are totally invalid, but that's OK. just don't take away my right to hear him. shut your radio or tune it to another station. there are enough choices for everyone, this is america.

Pardon me for stating that your biased, love-dovey opinion of Howard Stern means absolutely nothing to me. Go ahead and cry rivers of tears for this maggot "entertainer". I'm personally enjoying watching him lash out and panic that he doesn't have a free ride to rake in the big bucks off of his offensive twisted humor anymore.

"Anyway, Andy you still have a paycheck, but you must have a sour taste in your mouth from that 60 Minute BJ you had to give Karmazin and Hewitt."

LOL...

Rooney must have looked pretty silly in his leather Village People get-up.

Man,
You may be an F16Fighter pilot, but in the realm of philosophical argumentation you sink to the lowest level--the ad hominem attack.

A) "Philosophically" speaking, you dealt in an absurd absolute that has ALWAYS been untrue within these United States:("Either you uphold freedom of speech in all realms, or you don't.")

B) Your charge of an "ad hominem attack" is BS.

C) Grower a thinker skin -- don't confuse FR with a daycare center.

It's a very good question -- he was just as responsible as she was, no matter what he claims about a "wardrobe malfunction," and I contacted McDonald's to ask them to remove him as their corporate pitchman. As far as the music industry's concerned, Justin gets a pass because he's one of the top artists out there, with a current hit album, while it seems like Janet hasn't been relevant since Bush 41 was president!

Speaking of Justin Timberlake, black activists were outraged when he was tapped to co-host an ABC Motown tribute special. Timberlake has since pulled out/or been forced out of hosting the show. I can't say I disagree with the activists' complaints.

i was being facetious, the little worm is a moneymaker for the industry and inspite of exhibiting even worse behavior than janet (she was passive, he aggressive)he manages to scuttle out of the mess like a roach.

I don't understand why Timberlake is so popular in the first place!

i think popularity and talent are in no way related in the music business. look at hip hop, rap, brittany spears,nsync....there isn't an iota of talent among them etc. over produced, dumbed down and sexed up lyrics.

You're absolutely right. Speaking of which, I never thought I'd ever be a country music fan, but I went to see Alan Jackson last night at the Nassau Coliseum, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Why did I like it so much? Alan Jackson writes songs about real people and real problems, but they're not obscene, he believes in God and country, he actually sings and plays guitar live as opposed to all the lip-synching artists out there, he has a real band performing instead of a recorded track playing, and he's gracious and humble. This is the first concert I've ever seen where the artist actually signed autographs while standing onstage!
