SEATTLE (AP) -- A man who apparently wiggled through gaps in safety fencing threatened to jump from the landmark Space Needle on Friday but was talked back to safety after three hours.
The man alternately walked and sat on the outer ring of the observation deck - 520 feet above the ground - while police negotiators sat on the inner ring, talking to him.
He finally agreed to put on a safety harness, and a fire department rescue team helped him crawl back along a support beam, police said.
The man, believed to be from Seattle and about 30 years old, apparently squeezed through approximately 5-inch gaps in horizontal wire fencing that rings the deck, police said.
He was taken to a medical center for evaluation.
A call for comment to a Space Needle Corp. spokeswoman was not immediately returned Friday evening.
The landmark, on the Seattle Center grounds, was built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair.

Well thanks for replying. I thought this was an interesting article. I guess you and I are the only ones!

he wasn't doing this on a freeway bridge during rush hour...LOL. I heard this just now over KVI when I tuned in for a second. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.
I went up to the top once when I first came to Seattle. Don't need to go again. : )

And I even went to the extra effort to find a picture. I have to believe, the level of participation falls exponentially on weekends. Either that or it wasn't sexy enough.

And I even went to the extra effort to find a picture. I don't see the bozo in your picture. Can you go out and find another one? I'll wait.

This was pretty creative. He must have spent weeks trying to figure out how to get up there and accomplish this.

Sorry, I tried, I searched, but I just couldn't find Bozo on the Space Needle. Hope this at least cheers you up a tad...
To: Indy Pendance
I went up on the space needle when I was in Seattle at a convention and I didn't want to get on the elevator to go back down. I was too scared. LOL!

I took my spousal unit to the resturant there for our anniversary dinner. The "Emerald Room" is absolutely beautiful. The view is spectacular and the food, excellent. I was a former resident of Seattle and my spousal unit was from San Ramon in California, so it was a real treat. That outer ring is a little narrow thing, and the it is pretty windy up there. That the guy didn't accidently fall is pretty incredible!

Thanks for your support. It's really hard when a thread flops. You find an article, take the time to you read it, you think, wow, my fellow freepers will enjoy this, then, format it, link it, find an author, and make sure it's not a duplicate, then they ignore you en mass! Then, you learn it was a duplicate thread, which is the worst. I've found I have a real talent for posting a duplicate where the first thread's title was a 'my title' post. Then, after all that, I get the 'duplicate' your thread is locked message. I figure I have at least 10 minutes invested now. Heck, if the other poster would have followed the rules, I would have never posted the stupid duplicate in the first place, so, shouldn't my thread be the original, after all I better than the other guy, right? Wow, heavy, man...
I'm heart broken that I had a thread that had zero replies on a topic that could have been a FR thread of the year. Do you think, nah...won't go there.
