South Australia's parliament has passed a bill making it illegal to eat cats and dogs.
While the serving of cats and dogs in restaurants in the state was already illegal, state parliament's upper house passed a bill banning the consumption of the animals anywhere.
Under the legislation, any person caught eating a cat or dog can be fined $1,250.
The bill was opposed in the lower house by Greens MP Kris Hanna, who said the legislation was founded on racism.
"It plays upon unfounded fears about people from our own cultures who have different eating habits to our own," Mr Hanna said.

Yeah, whatever.

I thought Australia had a problem w/ wild dogs. Haven't they spent a lot of money on a dingo fence?

The dingo fence in Queensland was built back in the sixties to keep dingos away from sheep & cattle land. I guess it probably costs a lot to maintain it.
Dingos are pretty scrawny, doubt they'd be good to eat.

This is outrageous. I thought Austrailia was supposed to be multicultural, but no they go and pass laws that prohibit people from practicing their culture. This is a blatantly racist anti-Asian and bigoted law.

We don't allow adult men to marry thirteen year old girls either. I guess that is blatantly racist against Asian as well.

That's outrageous. The Koran allows 9 year old girls to marry and for men to have up to four wives.
