Free State NH on verge of nation's best gun freedom

Posted on 02/27/2004 5:48:39 PM PST by Dada Orwell

In addition to the many other growing freedoms in NH, there is a bill now making its way through the NH House that I understand will give NH the most gun freedom (under the law) of any state. Currently they are only in the top 3 or 4.

I hope this attracts a healthy number of gun nuts from slave states!

Oddly enough, I think Vermont has the freest gun laws in the country.

The proposal in NH would remove the requirement of obtaining a permit in order to carry a handgun concealed. Presently, one can carry a handgun without a permit only if it is clearly visible. BTW, carrying a loaded handgun in a vehicle, I believe, is considered to be carrying it concealed.

NH is a relatively easy state in which to obtain a concealed-carry permit. If the chief of police thinks you're a jerk, there's an appeals process, but I've not heard about many cases of police chiefs or selectmen abusing their discretion.

"Oddly enough, I think Vermont has the freest gun laws in the country."

That's true.

In Vermont you and your handgun can marry.

Remember to unload before consummating...

I need some help from a "gun-knowledgable" Freeper identifying a gun.

Can anybody help a perfect stranger on a Friday night?

" I read a story about 2 years ago about a grass roots effort of libertarians choosing NH as a last stronghold - and systematically moving to the Granite State."

Yeah, I've been reading about this pipe-dream too.

I'm still waiting to meet one of these "thousands of free-staters" who are supposed to be moving into New Hampshire. I haven't yet.

I have, however, year after year, watched tens of thousands of Massachusetts "Free-Loader Project" losers continue to move into Southern New Hampshire.

The Free-State Project has great publicity, but they're dick-less wonders so far as I have seen.

well i am a Mass refugee in Southern New Hampshire but dont worry we just reinforced the conservative base up here
do you think that NH will stay in the R column for the foreseable future? I was heartened in 02 when R took basically everything in the state.

I'm worried about NH in 2004 and the Republican camp. Granted, I swing with a largely Democrat crowd so I tend to be pessimistic.

I'd love to see the Free State thing come to something, but here, four miles from the border, I only meet people who want to pick my pocket.

Here is the web site:

They claim to have 5,400 memebers, but none are obligated to move at this point. The Exodus is supposed to begin when the numbers hit 20,000. None the less some have begun. The vote was held to pick a state last fall, when they hit 5,000 members. Things seem to have slowed down since then, and also many of the 5,000 had "opted out" meaning they said they would not move if a certain state was chosen. Thus the actual number of committed memebers is probably much lower now.

ah only 4 miles over the border
i am a little bit further up (between Manchester and Portsmouth) and i have seen a lot of D signs due to the primary. This was a little disconcerting but i have read a lot and spoken to some people on this site and it appears that NH is safe for now anyway. I just hope that the liberals from Mass dont pollute our state anymore.

Well I'm a freestater living in Maryland, and will move to New Hampshire before the 2008 election. I'm not waiting for the magic 20,000 number either. Considering there are only 5400 or so committed at this moment, I'm not suprised you haven't met anyone in person.
