If I remember correctly, I read a story about 2 years ago about a grass roots effort of libertarians choosing NH as a last stronghold - and systematically moving to the Granite State.

Indeed you did; that's The Free State Project, which includes a sizable number of interested FReepers.

The choice of which state to begin the effort in was made when 5000 members had pledged to make the move; which took about 2 years, but was growing exponentially and is now at around 5500. Once 20,000 total are on board, the group migration will begin, though some pioneers have already relocated.

There's an archive of FSP-related articles that can be followed with the FReep keyword search tag FSP, and I maintain a FSP-related FReeper *ping list,* the *porcupine list,* named for the FSP porcupine logo/mascot.

If you have any questions, feel free to fire them my way, and if I can't answer them, I'll point you toward one who can.

It's now 0700 in my locale [Memphis] but I'll happily give it a go.

I'm still waiting to meet one of these "thousands of free-staters" who are supposed to be moving into New Hampshire. I haven't yet.

The bulk of the FSPers won't be arriving until 20K are on board; the numbers have reached a bit over a forth of that amount [despite a prediction to me a couple of years back that no more than a few hundred would commit themselves.] The number joining on at present is around 50/week; not surprisingly it drops considerably over the winter months, then spikes upward with each bit of FSP publicity that attracts those interested. On the other hand, the numbers jumped from 4K to 5K in 10 weeks between June/03 and Aug/03. It varies....

But a few have indeed already made the move; if you'd really like to meet a few of those who are your new neighbors, Or, you can swing by the Porcupine Lunch on Saturday 2/28 noon at Inn at Danbury, 67 NH Route 104, Danbury, NH.

Are you located in the Conway or Laconia area, by any chance? BTW, PorcuPing!

That I don't know. I have property in TN. I have learned through the WEB that TN residents can get permits to carry by taking an eight hour course. The permit is not for a concealed permit. That tells me that in TN one can have a gun out in the open. The web site did say that most people concealed their weapons but it was not necessary.
