Phone book case aside. Had a case where we obtained a restraining order against a clients former employee who copied all the names and adresses of clients who had called an 800 number. The defendant folded/surrendered after the preliminary injunction was granted.
Uniqueness is the key. A phone book is ALL names, and is intended as a public document.
Why was is Pentium and not 586? can't copyright a number. Can't copyright fonts.
However Harley Davidson can copyright a stacato thunkata thunkato of their v-twin. ;-) Nothing to do with databases but who cares?

The defendant folded/surrendered after the preliminary injunction was granted. That's a good illustration of how the current safeguards are adequate.
