President Bush fired back at his Democratic critics Monday night. After being a sitting duck for the slings and arrows fired at him by the Hate Bush Brigade, the White House says the President plans to go on the offensive.
Its about time. We need to see a tough, straight-talking, Texas-style George Bush hammering away at his detractors. He also needs to reach out to his conservative base and remind them of whats at stake in this election, because he has a problem with a lot of them.
In recent weeks my conservative listeners have been talking about the same things Kerry and Edwards have been talking about. Theyre talking about jobs even though the unemployment rate is only 5.6 percent. Theyre talking about outsourcing, theyre talking about amnesty for illegal aliens these are the things that people who listen to talk radio are concerned about.
Their reaction to the Presidents handling of these issues should be a warning sign for the President. Conservatives are calling my show and telling me that they are not going to vote for George Bush because of his stand on amnesty or outsourcing, for example. And this simply amazes me. I ask them if they arent going to vote to re-elect George Bush are they going to vote for the Democrat? And the answer is inevitably, "NO! Im not going to vote for anybody. Im going to stay home on Election Day."
My reply is if you stay home and George Bush doesnt win re-election and instead Kerry or whoever the Democrat candidate is gets elected, do you think things are going to get really better? And their answer is, "Well, no, but I want to take a stand."
They should remember Custer. He too took a stand. It was his last.
That just stuns me because its utterly irrational. They dont understand they are taking a stand against themselves. By not voting they only help elect a liberal Democrat who wants to raise their taxes, enact all kinds of new spending programs. They would also endanger the nation by their already demonstrated ineptness and weakness in the war on terror, and hand over Iraq to the United Nations so it can create the same kind of mess we are now seeing in Haiti another UN and Clinton "success."
They are wearing blinders that only allow them to focus on one issue. They say they wont vote for a candidate who disagrees with them on one single issue even though he agrees with them on every other issue. Its utterly self-defeating.
Even though they staunchly support George Bush on his stands on tax cuts, how he is fighting the war, and applaud his pro-life policies, they disagree with him on the amnesty issue, for example, and therefore cant bring themselves to vote for him.
Theyll just stay home and help elect a Democrat who disagrees with them on just about everything. Theyd enact socialist programs that would cripple U.S. industry, yet some of my listeners applaud them not realizing that if you drive a companys profits down, you drive the value of their stock down and the millions of Americans whose 401Ks are invested in that firm suffer losses as a result.
When President Bush goes on the offensive, hes going to have to remind Americans that if they want to pay low prices for the goods they need, the reason they are going to have to look overseas is because Democrats in Congress have so regulated American companies that the cost of doing business has risen. Thats due to the unions and government regulations that have become so prohibitive.
Whats the Democrat answer? Well, they say theyd make foreign nations enact the same kind of onerous regulatory and environmental burdens we have here that would force the prices of their goods up to the same level as ours. In other words, wreck their own economies to make John Kerry or some other demagogue look good.
Fat chance.
Mike Reagan, the eldest son of President Ronald Reagan, is heard on more than 200 talk radio stations nationally as part of the Premiere Radio Network.
Weasles are plucky and queer looking but will kill and eat a rat... and thats all I have to say about democrats..
BUSH CHENEY 2004
To the "true conservatives" out there: if you choose to be undependable, the GOP will not care what you think. Period.
Good point!
That may be true...I personally have voted in every Presidential election since I've been eligible, and will no doubt vote this coming November as well. That said, I am seriously considering voting for the Constitution Party candidate, but would like nothing more than to see Dubyuh to put more emphasis on the "Conservative" portion of his "Compassionate Conservativism" so I can proudly vote fer him.
"And for anyone who thinks 'sitting this one out' will send a message to Rove, Bush, etc., think again. Do you honestly believe that?"
The message is already being sent, my FRiend...by registering its willingness to stay home or vote 3rd Party, the Principled Conservative Wing of the Republican Party is letting Dubyuh and his advisors know that we will not support DemonRAT-Lite when it comes to fiscal conservatism (or Illegal Immigration, depending on the voter). I believe this is an important message for President Bush to hear, and it would do Dubyuh--and the Country--good to adjust his policy priorities accordingly.
"Look back at history. Hell, look back at the past 12 years. Has Bush managed to undo everything Clinton has done? No. Did Reagan undo everything Carter did? No. For every two steps forward a liberal takes, it takes a Republican at least one step backward to undo what has been done, quite often at the expense of conservatism."
I'm not here to bash Bush, but this Administration has allowed Domestic Discretionary Spending to grow at 8% per year (compared to Clinton's 3% per year). I'm gullible enough to accept that much of this spending binge is a result of Homeland Security and a staggering economy, but it can be argued that Bush isn't even trying to undo what Clinton did.
"So go ahead, sit this one out."
Like I said, my FRiend, I don't sit out elections.
"You might as well sit every one out from this point on, because if Kerry is elected, you will NEVER see the kind of conservatism again that you see today in Bush today."
I disagree...I honestly believe Bush's brand of cultural conservatism is a winning hand in today's America. If a charismatic leader will partner that with a heartfelt belief oand pursuit of fiscal conservatism, I believe the combination would be unbeatable!!
"Kerry would put our country on the fast road to hell. Now you might be saying, 'well Bush has us on the slow road to socialism. If we're going down that road, I'd rather do it and get it over with.' Well you know what? I'd rather take my chances trying to stop a slow moving train than trying to stop a train in the express lane."
Admittedly, the last thing I want to do is anything that will result in making Kerry the Commander-in-Chief halfway thru the War on Terrorism. That said, as a Virginian whose State has carried the GOP banner in every presidential election since 1964, I have some flexibility in supporting a 3rd Party candidate.
"PS: For anyone who thinks that any politician, regardless of party, will do or say everything they want, get back to the real world."
Of course I don't expect Dubyuh to be perfect...not even my favorite POTUS ever--Reagan--did everything exactly as I would. Still, a sincere commitment to a Constitutionally-limited Federal Guv'ment is a core issue with me and many others. Even Dubyuh professes to be for limited government...now all we need is for him to follow up his words with the appropriate actions. I refuse to believe that is too much of a fantasy to entertain.

I'd substitute abortion for same-sex marriage in that well-crafted paragraph, myself -- but you're absolutely, positively 110% correct that the present-day assault on the institution of marriage is a clear and present danger -- one that we lose at our own imminent peril.
This makes it all the more mandatory that we refuse the 'Rats a victory, in '04. A 6-3 (or 7-2) liberal majority on the Supreme Court -- the inevitable end result of a Kerry presidency -- would make adamantine the liberal death-grip on this country for another thirty, forty years. America would end up, culturally, another Great Britain... or France.
(I know you need no convincing of this yourself, mind. Just venting aloud, is all.)
The next two threats are Islam and the dissolution of our borders.
I'd rank our most immediate threats in the following order of urgency, myself: (1) the ongoing abortion holocaust; (2) the assault on marriage; (3) Islamofascism; (4) the possible generations-long loss of the Supreme Court... but your own postings on the immigration question are thoughtful ones, and I have (as a result of same) moved the borders issue to my own inner top tier, as a result.
I'm dependably "conservative", and as long as the GOP adheres to the overriding principle of Fiscal Conservatism, they can depend on my support. When they stray from that princple, it is they who are being "undependable", imho.

So DO it, don't just talk about it! Sheeeeesh!
It's like "I'm a big boy too and I'm sure going to show them, by golly!"
It looks like we're hearing the the end result of the "new tone," which appears to resemble the famous "kinder and gentler," remember? I.E. wimpy. Sign me getting more disgusted every day.
okay.I appreciate your points. Look though, congress tends to fund and push regulations that do a hell of a lot of damage. The President has had 3 years and maybe a 18 months of a Congress tha thas the slimmest of majorities. I think there have been changes, but, like all else in economy as in nature, the results lag in arrival. Looks at Clinton's recession for an example.
A goodly number of the outsourced jobs have been in the pipeline for years. It didn't suddenly happen.Besides do you and I want the Feds digging into evermore of our businesses? There are certain things foisted upon business which require more than an executive order to cure.
One more time, with feeling...
And yet once again... BTW, I do think our lifetimes would see the left turning our sovereignty completely over to the U.N. There is very little stopping it now... just the GOP which is under a vicious attack from half the country on the left and yet more attack from a slice of the right.
I find it very scary that the GOP is all that is keeping America from slipping away forever and both the left and the hard-right seem intent on killing the Republican Party off.
It was indeed a GREAT one :-)
