Good riddance to Stern

I'm not conflicted about this at all. Howard Stern is a twit, but that he's been dropped from 6 stations has nothing to do with that. I think it's pretty obvious that the FCC's decision to crank up decency fines had a lot to do with Clear Channel's decision.

Certainly, Clear Channel could have made a different decision. Ultimately, it is their decision to make when they can a performer. But if I own a bank and the government tells me I have to report you for making transactions of 10K or more, or I am committing a crime, what choice do I really have? Clear Channel chose not to fight the power of the FCC in the courts, because that was rational for them--Clear Channel ultimately benefits far more from the monopolistic competition scenario the FCC provides broadcasters than Clear Channel would benefit from a truly competitive broadcast market in a United States without the FCC.

This was our chance to remove government intervention for good. Instead we make it easier for the Left to get involved. The Fairness Doctrine was peanuts compared to what will come next. Good move, Mr. Powell.
