I'm hoping that the unions gave in big time, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thank god. I ran out of groceries weeks ago.

Those stikers may find the usual customers less than friendly when they return to work.
Bad things were said. We remember. We enjoyed the scabs, they were cheery and efficient.
I haven't waited in line for four months.

Look for prices to go up on food so that you can afford that grumpy cashier being paid $40 per hour.

In tomorrow's Investor's Business Daily, this appears:
The grocery workers union sees a deal soon to end the 5-month, 70,000-worker strike at 3 supermarket chains. Published reports suggest Albertsons, (ABS) Kroger's (KR) Ralphs and Safeway's (SWY) Vons seem to have won a lot of concessions, including a two-tier wage system and workers paying more for health care.Shares of the grocery chains, which have lost $1 bil in sales, rose modestly.
It looks like the Union lost big time...

I agree. I was at the store yesterday. I forgot an essential item. The bagger told me to go ahead and get it, and she unloaded my cart for me .. I nearly fell over!

Bad things were said. We remember. The picketers never said anything to me. In fact, they avoided eye contact, even though I didn't even know them.
I haven't waited in line for four months.
At the beginning, the other stores where I usually shopped had really long lines. In fact, Trader Joe's still has long lines. So, I shifted more of my shopping to Ralphs.
When the strikers stopped striking Ralphs after the wildfires, it became too crowded there, so I switched to Vons. I was completely surprised that Vons' prices were so much higher than Ralphs', yet Vons had less selection and poorer quality produce.
I'm so glad this strike is over. Hopefully I can return to my old shopping habits now.

Now the scabs are out of jobs.Hopefully they can get rehired as new workers. After all, some of the old workers changed jobs after so many months on strike.

I dunno - I started shopping at Food Maxx when the strike started, and have been amazed at the better prices, not to mention the quality of the meats and produce. Even though it's a little more inconvenient to drive to Food Maxx, I think I may stick with them, and just go to Von's when I need one or two items.
My big gripe was with the Von's pharmacy that left us high and dry when the strike started. We switched our prescriptions to Long's, but it was a hassle to get everything changed over. If Von's didn't give a rat's patoot about their pharmacy customers, why should we care about them!
