Hollywood Bosses Vow to Destroy Gibson
Newsmax ^ | 2/26/04

I won't hire him. I won't support anything he's part of."

So says a chairman of major Hollywood studio quoted today by the New York Times in its latest attack on Mel Gibson and "The Passion of the Christ."

Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, who along with Steven Spielberg are the big cheeses at the powerful DreamWorks, and who just happen to be Democrat activists, are angry about the movie, according to the Times. And the chairmen of two other big studios say they won't work with Gibson.

"Amid the daily dealings of Hollywood, the film and the star have been fodder for unfavorable gossip. Dustin Hoffman has talked to friends about what he called Mr. Gibson's 'strangeness' during the ABC interview. The producer Mike Medavoy said Mr. Gibson's religious zealotry made him feel uncomfortable," the Times fretted.

'Antichrist' Welcome

Others, however, think Tinseltown's notorious avarice will rule in the end.

"If the movie works, I don't think it will hurt him. People here will work with the Antichrist if he'll put butts in seats," said John Lesher, an agent with Endeavor.

And the wallet-packing butts are there. The $30 million movie made up to $20 million or more on its debut Wednesday, Box Office Mojo estimated today.

The Associated Press today estimated Wednesday's take at more than $20 million, with a total so far of up to $26 million including previews Monday and Tuesday.

Maybe Sheen is just mad that Mel didn't offer him the Satan role.
[I've always thought that Sheen was the -perfect- actor for "The Walkin' Dude" in "The Stand"]

"I am a wuss and cannot stand to see stories about violence done to even animals."

You echo my sentiments exactly but I went to see it anyway.

I cannot overstate the anxiety I experienced, just thinking about going to see it.

It is not as bad as they're making it out to be.
In fact, "From Dusk To Dawn" is much more "violent" and "gory".

If you think you'd be up to it, buy the ticket, go to the movie and try to stay.
You can always leave whenever you want to.

I can't even explain my compulsion to sit through something which I feared would be too much for me.
I just knew I -had- to go and throughout the movie I felt like I was being given the strength to endure watching it.

[Bear in mind this is coming from someone who hasn't seen a movie in a theater since ET first came out].....;)

Every screen showing this film has bumped Hollywood's films off screen and hurt net income for their entire market channel businesses.

With some 3,000 screens, think of the lost revenue to the Godless Rumpsteins who mock and despise Christians and all conservatives.

I pray that 'Passions' becomes a billion dollar industry for Gibson, who if nothing else would put Christians to work in the film industry.

It doesn't work that way. Distribution is planned way ahead of time. No other film was "bumped" for this one.

Gibson didn't have a distributor until just a couple of months ago. Distribution started with some 800 screens then bloomed into nearly 3,000 in a few weeks since the strong response of the pre-screenings poured out.

This is profound short-term change. Over 2,000 screens weren't dark.

Jews continue to have a veil over their eyes preventing them from seeing their Messiah.

It would be equally offensive for me to say that you are bowing before a false prophet. But I would never say that, or believe it. I respect the right of Christians to hold their beliefs. And Judaism is not a prostelitizing religion.

No other films were bumped. Those other films have been booked into theaters for a while. It's also possible Gibson claimed not to have distribution when he actually did, just to add to the controversy. His PR campaign has been complex and layered.

One point about Hollywood: they all respect money, because money is power.

Mel self-financed this movie which means he doesn't need the network of producers (money men) like Geffen, Katzenberg & Speilberg. Right now I'd wager that Mel has proven that he can "make it happen" when it comes to any movie-project that he is involved with.

Mel doesn't need these overblown, self-important blowhards. That's what gets their goat. This movies is already a success without their backing and despite their objections. The audience loves Mel and will go see his movies regardless of what these loonie lefties try to do to destroy him.

Mmmmm...Mel!!!

Whether or not the plans of retribution from these Hollywood power mongers works is not the issue. The major problem is the abuse of their power and the major league hypocrisy in which they display by McCarthyising Gibson for his religous beliefs.

What I am encouraged with is after 70+ years of socialists trying to take over this country, conservatives are finally starting to make progress! I get so down and out at times, because like everyone here, I want change now! But, our country wasn't founded on quick action, purposely to avoid kings and the like. We have to keep pushing forward on all fronts. Mel Gibson is on our side.
