Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) is refusing to apologize for explosive comments she uttered Wednesday at a closed-door meeting in which she charged that President Bush is employing a racist policy toward Haiti.
In a telephone interview with HOH on Wednesday night, Brown confirmed that she told Bush official Roger Noriega that the Haitian people are in desperate straits because of all you white men who have under-funded relief programs.
Sources in the room for the Florida delegation meeting told HOH that Noriega, who is Mexican-American, took great offense at the comment. Some people in the room felt that Browns comment was also directed at Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), a Cuban-American, who had been helping Noriega brief the delegation on the situation in Haiti.
Do I look white to you? Noriega asked. Does Lincoln look white to you?
According to a source in the room, Brown shot back: You guys all look the same.
Asked whether she said that, Brown told HOH, Yeah, I did. I wasnt speaking of color. Im speaking of policy. Im speaking of racist policy. Racist policy!
Brown then added: Theyre always trying to get assistance for the Cuban people, but no assistance for the Haitian people.
When pressed on how Noriega responded to her, Brown said, He said he was Mexican. I wasnt even talking about Lincoln or whats the other ones name?
Brown was apparently referring to freshman Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), Lincolns brother.
The Congresswoman stressed that she was targeting her rage at Noriega and his deputies from the State Department.
They were all white men, she said. Well, he says hes not a white man. Whatever. Hes says hes Mexican-American. I wasnt questioning who he was. I was saying, 'Youre all alike. And your racist policy is all alike. Youre anti-Haitian people.'
One Republican who attended the meeting charged that Browns own comments are racist: Is this the Democrats new way of reaching out to Latino Americans?
The confrontation comes at a delicate time in the Haitian crisis. Bush has declared that Haitians trying to make it to America by sea will be turned away.
After the Capitol Hill meeting, Brown joined a delegation of Congressional Black Caucus members who headed to the White House Wednesday night to meet with Bush and voice concerns that the refugees are being turned away only because they are of African descent.
The American policy toward Haiti is racist, said Brown. If the Cubans make it to the shore, its OK. But Haitians not one is welcomed in.
Noting the political unrest in Haiti right now, Brown added, They are going to be slaughtered unless we intervene.

A double standard of enforcing racial sensitivities is the result of soft racism by the implication that the person uttering those words isn't capable of being held accountable to the same standards as the majority of America.
Or else she's so sure of her position in the protected classes that she knows there will be no price to pay for such hateful racist ranting and raving. Go figure.

If this was a white person, their head would still be spinning from the 2-second firing they would have received.

Who wants to bet this doesn't get half the play that Paige's comment (NEA are terrorists) got?Sean's too busy plugging his book to bring it up on his show. You DID know that Sean's got a book out, didn't you?
And did you know that Kerry was in Vietnam?
Sorry, just having some fun...
What REALLY peeves me is that the Democrats are never pinned down on the definition of rich. I wish Brit, Sean, et.al. would ask these Democrats "at what income level is someone rich?", and not let up until they get an answer.
The answer would likely surprise many Democrat constituents. I think that magic number would be around $100,000, and I know many families with that income don't feel wealthy AT ALL.

Man, what a picture... She and Janet Reno sure are some left-wing hotties!
Seriously, she looks a dude dressing up as "Aunt Ethel" for a cheap Halloween costume.

I am long past expecting anyone having to "pay" for such racism as this.

You owe our President and all AMERICANS an apology!
" which she charged that President Bush is employing a racist policy toward Haiti. "
I have to say that I TOTALLY 100% disagree!! Ahhhh NO.
We have more d*mn illegals here now that is causing our country great harm we do NOT need anymore.
President Bush is right on many issues and he certainly is totally right-on with this issue.
He is having the UN make it their problem not ours.
WTG Bush!!

Shallow and half-witted comments like this is what allowed racism to be turned around and used like a club AGAINST white people. If you try to speak out you are called "racist" yourself.
Her remarks should offend anyone of ANY color. If racism...what's left of it is to be truly removed from our culture...racists of any color should be denounced IMMEDIATELY. Instead people like "Havana" Harry Belafonte and Jessie Jackson would triumph someone like this woman as "heroic" for standing up and telling people "how it really is" in America today. Instead of condeming her remarks as hurtful to the cause of racial euqality.
