If it's Thursday, it's time for another tongue-in-cheek, side-splitting, rip-roaring two-cents from FR's resident pundit.

My beloved, flee from idolatry. —1 Corinthians 10:14

The dearest idol I have known,
Whate'er that idol be,
Help me tear it from Thy throne
And worship only Thee

An idol is anything that takes the place of God.

Idols Of The Heart

Read: 1 Corinthians 10:1-14

My beloved, flee from idolatry. —1 Corinthians 10:14

Bible In One Year: Numbers 15-16; Mark 6:1-29

In Old Testament times, idolatry was easy to recognize—dancing around the golden calves, bowing before the Baals. Even when the apostle Paul wrote to followers of Christ in first-century Corinth, pagan idolatry was openly practiced. He warned them to avoid any association with it (1 Corinthians 10:14).

Idolatry is still a danger to the people of God, though it isn't always so open or obvious. Idols are usually more subtle and hard to detect, for they set up their home in the hidden places of our heart.

If we want to know our idols, we need to consider our predominant thoughts, for what we think about most of the time may be an idol. Our last thought before we sleep, our first thought when we awake, our reveries throughout the day, are spent on the items and issues we treasure and trust. Any possession or person we put our hope in to bring us fulfillment, any goal or aspiration that becomes more important to us than God—these are the "gods" that attract our allegiance and subtly control our lives.

Only God can satisfy the deepest needs of our heart and make us truly alive. That's why we would be wise to heed the loving counsel of the apostle Paul: "My beloved, flee from idolatry." —David Roper

The dearest idol I have known,
Whate'er that idol be,
Help me tear it from Thy throne
And worship only Thee. —Cowper

An idol is anything that takes the place of God.

'Dear John' Letter # 1,016:

What a relief to know you will not resort to rumormongering, keeping yourself above the pitfalls of spreading...ummm...'stuff.'

You tactfully do not accuse a certain Senator from Massachusetts - not to be confused with a certain Senator from Massachusetts whose older brother was a certain Senator from Massachisetts who advanced to the Presidency - of delving in the spices of life.
After all, this JFK laid aside his silver spoon and reached for a mere bottle of catsup to show he is just 'one of us,' didn't he?

I hafta point out here, though, that was such a clever move, catsup being red, tying in neatly as a symbol of the blood he shed in Vietnam, although he does not often refer to his heroics in action there.

You most nobly resist the urge to describe him as a SLEAZEBALL, respectfully deferring to an elder to lead the way down that path.
After all, we'd not want to risk the liberals accusing you of trying to create a costly, futile Charles River Investigation like the Whitewater One - right??

I mean, just because they are 'entitled' to at least One Free Pass (or 2 or 20..) per Politician doesn't mean we conservative types can point fingers...

By the way, JH, I do think Juan Forbus Kash Kerry should be a 'shoe-in' for

Thank you Billie and John for the great amount of pleasure you bring into my life.
I see where Gary Trudeau. via Doonesbury is offering a $10,000 reward for anybody who can prove that Dubya was in Alabama some 30 years ago.
I wonder if he will offer a similar bounty to anybody who saw Kerry and Alex Polier together. (heh heh)

Mornin' FR's Finest...

Gotta wonder who's gonna trumpet the cry of Nada Nader.

So glad to read that you've not stooped to the depths of rumor-mongering, jh2.

Speaking of Botox Boy, Reuters has an item that Botox can be used to cure a pain in the neck. Hmmmmm.

Don't think I'll resort to that stuff when I have JH2's prescription for the malady known as Dem Dam Dims Pain In The Neck - My 2 Cents. Great Medication.
