MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
Posted on 02/25/2004 2:05:55 PM PST by Allen In Texas Hill Country
This morning I realized that within recent history I feel that I/we are going thru the BIGGEST, and I mean BIGGEST media frenzy over absolutely nothing. And amazingly enough I'm not talking abut politics. I have not one scintilla of concern, understanding, care or worry about the HOOPLA over Mel Gibson's movie. To be even more honest I don't even have a remote clue (and I don't want one) about what the hub-bub is over. I honestly believe ITS ABOUT NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!
The New Testament being nothing more about a political era means it is of absolutely no real value to the events of today. As compared to the Old Testament which is nothing more than a rudimentary vague history book. But being a history book it at least has some small minor value as compare to the New Testament.
So what is all the caterwalling about??

It's about religious faith. It seems that you have no such religious involvement, which is just fine, but there are a lot of people who take it very seriously.

Boy are you clueless and wrong. Perhaps, if 100 million people are vitally interested in this movie, just perhaps, it is they that understand something you don't.

Do you hear kitties?

I just saw it.
It is beyond description so I won't try.
The theater was sold out at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon.
It's not too violent. Gibson was obviously restrained.
It was the fastest 2 hours I can remember. There was not one dull moment.
You won't understand the controversy until you see it for yourself.
It is most certainly not anti-semitic.

The New Testament being nothing more about a political era means it is of absolutely no real value to the events of today. It has extraordinary value to life today. The reason there is so much study and time devoted to the teachings of Christ is because of the way it impacts daily life. Why do you think people spend so much time on it, if it has so little meaning to them?

It's mostly the Left doing the caterwauling that someone with Mel Gibson's clout and popularity has had the temerity to make a movie about his saviour. In that regard, this very much expresses the irrational, hate-based place that the Left is coming from. It's important.

The New Testament being nothing more about a political era means it is of absolutely no real value to the events of today. Did you intend this sentence to be lucid?

Nevermind....you wouldn't understand. Spiritual blindness has that affect. However, seeing the movie might help to remove the scales from your eyes.

The New Testament being nothing more about a political era means it is of absolutely no real value to the events of today. What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn't treat him like God, refusing to worship him, they trivialized themselves into silliness and confusion so that there was neither sense nor direction left in their lives. They pretended to know it all, but were illiterate regarding life.

The Old Testament is by no means "vague," in fact, it was, until the early 20th century archaeological digs in Iraq, the sole written history of a large number of events that have since been verified by non-Judaic sources. There is no reputable scholar of ancient history, Jew, Christian, Muslim, Agnostic, Voodoo, you name it, who hasn't studied it closely.
As far as the New Testament goes - are they making a movie of it? I haven't heard... ;-)
