Actually I don't think it would matter if he was running for re-election. Breaux is God down here. He won't get tossed out for anything.

The reason why Breaux is "God" in Louisiana is that he was always careful to vote the right way on hot-button social conservative issues so as not to piss off the socially conservative majority in LA. If he decided to vote against the FMA, he'd face a real electoral challenge from a Republican and would not be guaranteed victory. I seriously doubt Breaux would be saying this early on that he opposes the FMA if he were running in November.
