Kerry’s 'Opposition' to Gay Marriage

After the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling imposing gay marriage against the will of the people and the legislature, John Kerry told reporters on May 5, 2002, I personally believe the court is not right
I don't support marriage. I never have. That's my position. Yesterday, after President Bush announced his support of a Constitution Amendment banning gay marriage, Kerry reiterated that position, "I oppose gay marriage. I also oppose President Bush's attempt to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage,"
Just exactly how does Kerry oppose gay marriage? Kerry opposes, at least for now, amending the US Constitution. Also, Kerry was one of only 14 Senators who voted against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996, which would have banned federal recognition of gay marriage for the purpose of any federal benefits. In his opposition, Kerry went as far as calling the DOMA, "unconstitutional, unprecedented, unnecessary and mean-spirited bill," and compared the law to the 1960s efforts in the south to criminalize interracial marriages.
Kerry has also attacked the federal efforts as an infringement on states rights. However, when Massachusetts tried to act on their own to ban gay marriage in 2002, Kerry signed a letter which stated, "We believe it would be a grave error for Massachusetts to enshrine in our Constitution a provision which would have such a negative effect on so many of our fellow residents."
So, Kerry is on record as believing a ban on gay marriage is not only bigoted and hateful, but is also 'unconstitutional' on the federal level and a grave error on the state level. Just how exactly does Kerry oppose gay marriage, and which reported will be brave enough to ask the tough questions?

Just heard on newsbreak- Kerry accusing Bush of flip flopping on the need for amendment. What a hypocrite.
Why do all the Kerry sounbites make the news?

Just heard on newsbreak- Kerry accusing Bush of flip flopping on the need for amendment. What a hypocrite. It is not a flip-flop when circumstances significantly change. There was no need for such an Amendment prior to a two months ago, but then activists judges and renegade mayors got into the picture...

Totally agree. I should have clarified Kerry's the hypocrite.

Rule of thumb: whatever Kerry accuses Bush of is actually what KERRY is guilty of. Works for me!

Speak for yourself. I have had no doubts at all about our current Commander in Chief. Never for one moment have I lost faith in the man and believe he is all that stands between us and anarchy and destruction.

Just heard on newsbreak- Kerry accusing Bush of flip flopping on the need for amendment. What a hypocrite. Obviously, the "Flip-flop" label is hurting Kerry, so he has to try to reverse it on Bush. Just like everything was Bush AWOL on Job Creation, Bush AWOL on catching Ben Laden, Bush AWOL etc.
Since that's not working anymore, now they have to find a new counter-attack. I think that POTUS was clear that he was leaning towards a Constitutional Amendment, but that he was hoping that the State's might handle this correctly. Now it seems that we can't count on that, so POTUS is calling for Federal action.

PLEASE FREEP THIS POLL!
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-02-24-gay-marriage-survey.htm My daughter reminded me of something that I am glad she did. Way back when, Clinton received tons of money from gay groups for his election and he started this gay militant revolution. Lets not forget that EVERY Dimrat that gets into office has had the backing of the gay groups.
Kerry is no different!

But now he's claiming he hasn't taken a stand on the Mass. gay marriage ban. And he'll get away with it, too -- heck, he said Monday that he hadn't even followed what was happening in San Francisco, and only one paper, The New York Post, even printed that!

That is either a lie or incompetence. The largest primary in the campaign is only a week away, in CALIFORNIA, and he is unaware of a major political issue boiling here? Give me a break!
