The four top Republican candidates seeking to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer split Tuesday on whether they would immediately support President Bush's call for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages.

Former Secretary of State Bill Jones and former Los Altos Hills Mayor Toni Casey said they opposed gay marriage. When pressed during a radio debate, however, they declined to unequivocally back an amendment.

Thanks for posting this. :) Let's see... the word "marriage" is being messed with. Just as "illegal aliens" (undocumented workers) has been messed with. I think gay lobby has "screwed itself" on this issue of "marriage". Of course the twining of the "marriage" and the "immigrant issues" in this one article brings a huge grin to my face. It's quite.. a significant pairing of issues on a political scale. And, I think the Dems have walked right into it. --SNAP!

Marin, who raised the most, is also in last place. Hmmmm.

Nice to know that all the candidates are against Gay Marriage. The amendment on the other hand...not sure about this to be honest. But if San Francisco gets its way...

Boxer needs to be sent home packing. She's playing both sides of the field on this issue.

Careful reading of the article indicates that none of the candidates support Bush's proposed constitutional amendment.

Jones and Casey were affirmative in their specific opposition.

Marin and Kaloogian supported an amendment to ban gay marriage which Bush's admendment doesn't address.

Thanks for the ping!

Was there a live thread on the debate? The audio should be online, and I taped the show, but I haven't listened yet.

Casey said she would "consider" an amendment if the issue wasn't resolved in court.

Former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin flatly stated she supported an amendment to ban gay marriage, as did former state Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian.

"Marriage between a man and woman is the foundation of civilization for thousands of years and should be protected," Kaloogian said.

I like this Kaloogian, he gets it!

Every one should take the time to read this great piece by Dennis Prager:
