The Chronicle would never endorse a conservative. Green is just the guy Perry picked because he's mad at Smith beating Xavier Rodriguez last time.

"What is the evidence that Paul Green is liberal to moderate?"
I just got off the phone with an activist and campaign guy who is helping some candidates (ie Garcia). He ran into Paul Green at an event. Green was talking about the need for 'an hispanic on the Texas supreme court' and was pro- affirmative action in his comments to some people there. This guys joke to me was "if this guy thinks we need a hispanic on the court, why is he running?"
Of course, a key reason alot of us like Smith is because he is foursquare for equality of opportunity and against racial preferences.
This is all about 'payback' from the moderates for conservative Smith taking on a moderate. The YCT press release also mentions Green's comments to a paper, which confirms the anecdote I've heard.
We need to support Steven Smith.
SAY NO TO THE GREENS.
