Every president has a hundred issues upon which he would like to act. But he is limited to those issues upon which he can get enough support to prevail.
For example, consider the abortion issue. President Bush is very opposed to abortion and public opinion is even trending his way. But the chances of getting a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion is next to nil. Working hard to try an amendment passed banning abortion is stupid when there is no chance of getting it done.
Headlines saying of "Bush Fails to end abortion" are not helpful.
What presidents can do is act when the iron is hot. Right now the burning issue is homosexual marriage. Bush can and has acted upon it. The people who are criticizing Bush are the far right fringers. The far right fringers are just like the far left fringers. To the far left Earth in the Balance Gore was not Green enough to get their vote. Bet the farm that Kerry is not green or left enough to get their vote either.
To the far right Bush will never be "Right" enough to please them.
If you remember back in 2000, the number of far right posters on this site could lead you to believe that Buchanan and the Libertarians would get 10 million votes each. We know the two right wing fringe parties only got t a half of one percent of the vote each in 2000. They won't do any better in 2004.
The Bush Bashers on the this site are of two categories. The Democrat Disrupters who are trying to ferment trouble in the Bush Camp, and the far right fringers.
Both the far right fringers and the far left fringers are not a factor. No Democrat... not even a Democrat who touts global warming on the coldest day in decades, can please the Greenies as Al Gore proved. No Republican no matter how pro marriage and pro life can win the support of the far right fringe.
The one thing that we know is when the Fringers get a president to do what they want, they claim he is not doing it soon enough or strongly enough. Today's posters are absolute proof of my thesis that the far right is not worthy of our attention.
