Militants' Crude Camp Casts Doubt on U.S. Claims

Hundreds of pages of scientific materials include information on mustard gas, the venom of black widow spiders and the risks of tainting mail with biotoxins. One file shows how to concoct "fatal doses" of heroin, which can be given as "Valentine presents" to unsuspecting victims. Other files contain the biography of Osama bin Laden, rambling accounts of Islamic battles throughout history and how to inspire the credo: "Terrify the enemies of Allah."

Algeria: Oran security agencies looking for dangerous

BBC Monitoring Middle East

Feb 25, 08:03 AM

Text of unattributed report: "Terrorist group actively sought in Oran", published by Algerian newspaper La Tribune web site on 25 February

The security agencies of Oran Province are looking for a dangerous terrorist group that successfully found a hideout to the southeast of the province's main town, reliable sources have reported. It is believed that these terrorist elements who successfully infiltrated the province's urban fabric reportedly fled the maquis out of fear of reprisals from the groups controlling the Mascara region. According to the same sources, a ruthless battle currently marks the situation of the small terrorist groups for control of the region in the west of the country where they are teeming. The security agencies are actively looking for a certain Lahmar Aoued, a notorious terrorist known for having assassinated several policemen, not without having relieved them of their weapons. The elements of this group who are just as dangerous seem to have elected domicile in the village of Chteibo, which gained notoriety for a certain suspicious activity that is in the process of becoming permanent in that region of the province. Indeed, close to three months ago, one terrorist was slain and another wounded in that community. A chief of the brigade from the El Kerma national gendarmerie lost his life during that anti-terrorist operation. During the days that followed that operation, the security services successfully nabbed two other terrorists in Chteibo and Petit Lac. Not long thereafter, events would follow one another and it was the community of El Hassi's turn to witness similar operations. Indeed, in the wake of valuable reports supplied thanks to these anti- terrorist operations, the combined forces would succeed in capturing a dangerous terrorist in possession of a home-made bomb and loaded automatic weapons. Nearly one month ago, another terrorist was slain and another wounded while they had been tailed to the middle of the new town market. It was a repentant who informed the anti-terrorist security agencies. In the southern part of the province, an anti- terrorist operation resulted in the neutralization of a dangerous terrorist who wanted to carry off an incursion near the douar of Sidi Ghalem.
