Sometimes I feel that my FReepers are my only friends. My family and friends keep rolling their eyeballs at me everytime I mention these threats. I wonder if they are really aware and awake to what is happening in this world. They seem to think that I am the "goofball" and over reacting to this stuff. Therefore, I am quietly preparing and readying my home for whatever may come. So, I sit a silent vigil...but, a ready one.

I'm at a University in NW Ohio, and everyone thinks I'm crazy.

I use to fit in, but things started changing on 9/11.

Though what finally turned the card for me was the war in Iraq. Watching the nightly news be so incredibly biased compared to what I read on the internet just ticked me off. It opened my eyes and now there's no goin' back.

That is a common phenomenon here on Free Republic. But, it is not a healthy one. An Internet site is a Internet site. It is no substitute for your friends and family. Do not neglect them or you will become isolated. Be willing to drop talking about this stuff when you're with them.

What prompts me to write this is a thread on depression a few months back following the suicide of a Freeper (do a search if inclined). If I remember right, many of the posters agreed that a fair number of Freepers suffer from depression. The above is one reason why I think that may be. Your friends and family are the real world, Free Republic, no matter how cool, is cyber space.

BUMP!!!

Hi Everyone. I've been away for a while and I'll never be able to catch up on this thread. I'm glad it's still going. Great job folks.

I'm still busy as can be so I'll only be checking in from time to time. Thanks to all for keeping watch. Even though I've so much to do these days, I stay ready.

Prayers out to all for safety, good health, and much happiness.

Freeper's are my only friends, what would one do without this family here?

I dig it, RR. I think some folks took what you wrote literally, unfortunately. I think many of us on this thread can identify with what you wrote as far as noticing that many of our families and friends do not want to know about the terrorist threat. They either want to remain positive by not thinking about it at all even though they know that more homeland terrorism is inevitable, or they think that there is no longer a terrorist threat here because our government has it under control.

Barnacle, on this thread, we all share a hunger to know and to monitor threats, unlike some of the important others in our lives. I believe this is what RR inferred.
