>>>Mad Cow disease is not killed in the cooking process according to some articles I read about it.

Therefore, I've been buying more poutry and pig products and COOKING them.

The beef products that I've looked at in the meat department don't even look right. They look like they have been sitting too long.

At least with Avian Flu...Tex just confirmed for me that dies during cooking.

I really want to get a deep chest freezer. I found a few places online I can order Ostrich from. I can then divy that up, cook and store that.

Now the battle is, hubby doesn't want one in the garage due to the room it takes up and I don't want it in the basement cause I'm afraid the kids would lock themselves in it.

This will work out though.

We bought a small freezer, enough for the two of us. It is well stocked with all kinds of goodies. I think we have four small packages of beef products left. More and more of our diet consists of other items - including salads and vegetables. If we can't be sure how many cows had this disease (it was reported the initial cow may NOT have been a downer cow like was reported) what exactly are we supposed to believe? Frozen foods that contain beef are certainly a question mark. Turkey burgers and chicken sandwiches are sounding better every day.

You can get an nice upright freezer about the size of a small fridge from Sears....ours is in the laundry room but it could easily fit in the kitchen too. It's much easier to get to all the frozen foods and keep it organized with the shelves. ( I even freeze milk -take a cup out of a plastic gallon before putting it in though.)
