Yes I remember that thread, we were monitoring the radio scanners and local TV reports and reporting here on FR. That was a frightening couple of days. I don't think they ever caught those guys in the van.

Thanks for the Walton Feed site, I found something interesting there as I've always worried about being able to cook in the event of an emergency. (Nuwick candles)

Here's two I like as well, also in Idaho and one in California!!

NUWICK candles are unique! Only NUWICK 120 hour and 44 hour candles provide a non-toxic, self contained source for lighting, heating and cooking. NUWICK candles are a fail-safe, basic staple for those who are well prepared, active and environmentally aware.

The moveable wicks are the patented innovation behind the NUWICK products! (Contains NO LEAD)

LIGHT. HEAT. COOK. Boil water in 14 minutes. Fry an egg in 5 minutes. Each lead-free, totally non-toxic, moveable, reusable and waterproof wick will burn 25-40 hours. Use up to a maximum of three (3) wicks simultaneously, depending on the task. Only two (2) wicks needed for cooking

On one of the survival lists years ago, they were experimenting with 3# coffee cans, filled with sawdust/wood shavings and candle wax poured over the whole works, yes, it had 3 or 5 wicks stuck in it.

Some said it worked for cooking food. You might need to put beer can opener holes at the top, to get air circulation, when a pot is placed on top.

The white van arsonists.......

A couple months ago, KGO news, San Francisco had a report that they were looking for a white van that had started "Fires" along the freeways.

Thank you for the food links, are you aware that you can make all those mixes from scratch for pennies?

Do a google search for:

make a mix food recipes in a jar

make a mix food recipes

There are also several Yahoo Groups with those type names and it is unreal the number of recipes out there.

Start saving every glass jar that comes your way, it will help if your friends will save them for you.

I don't use plastics. Theresa could taste all the plastic containers while she was going thru the cancer treatments, even the new plastic coffee containers.

Here in the desert I find the plastics rot and spoil.

Get Cast Iron pots, not the Teflon type pans, if you burn a Teflon pan in your kitchen, cage birds in the house will die. If it isn't good for them, it isn't good for me.

I try for organic, but am not hyper if it doesn't happen.

Be careful with the "Make a Mix" search, it can become a hobby...........LOL

Walton Feed.com also sells the soup mixes in #10 cans, I have several in storage. I use the peppers and onions in all recipes.
