February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Good question. Knowing his name might give us a hint. I suspect, however, that regardless of what he was doing, he either failed to equip himself properly and died of hypothermia or became disoriented and couldn't find his way up through the ice. But I like I said, the tide and currents in that area are extremely fast and difficult and he could have traveled a long way in a short amount of time.

Early Wednesday morning the radio news carried a report of
Hamburger meat that had been recalled.

IN the west and to the Army.

It was recalled, as it was contaminated with Ebola.

The meat company was Richland or Rich - something.

I never heard the report again.

"It was recalled, as it was contaminated with Ebola."

Are you sure it wasn't E. Coli? That would be an expected problem in hamburger...ebola is a whole 'nother ball game.

In the Kingman, Arizona area, there are hot water in some of
the wells, they are at the base of a volcanic mountain.

The hottest one may be gone now, as it was at the old gas station remains adjoining the Truck Inspection station that was at Hwy 68 and Hwy 93 intersection, west of Kingman.

That has all been remodeled.

Sulfur smells are associated with volcanoes, I think.

Yes, it could have been E-coli.

My brain froze, when they said it had been supplied to the U.S. Army.

120 days to process a visa is astonishing given the current level of technology and the idea that "no record" equates with "no Objection" is antiquated...pre 9/11 thinking.

Okay, so we've got 2 dead divers and a white powder incident in the Washington DC subway...I don't feel so bad about my seeing the 25th as an ominous shibbolith.

Take a look at the homelandsecurityus.com website.

You've got 2 dead divers. One 10 miles from the Indian River Power Plant in NY State. One in Hollywood FL. Hollywood's other famous resident was none other than Mohamed Atta.

You've got a scuba diver in the Honolulu harbor that they can't find.

You've got a picture of a smiling Bin Laden and a scuba diver

You've got a warning from DHS about scuba divers in terror attacks.

Kinda scary.

Powder Disrupts Metrorail
Substance Deemed Not Hazardous
By Petula Dvorak and Clarence Williams
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, February 26, 2004; Page B01

The Judiciary Square Metro station was closed and Red Line trains were delayed during the evening rush hour yesterday after a white powder later determined to be relatively harmless was found in the station, authorities said.

A small amount of anthranilic acid, an organic substance used in the manufacture of dyes and as a filler in pharmaceuticals, was scattered when a glass vial was shattered in the Northwest Washington station about 6:30 p.m., said Alan Etter, a spokesman for D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Metro officials halted trains traveling into the Judiciary Square station and asked commuters to avoid the Red Line, which experienced delays of more than 30 minutes in both directions after the powder was discovered, said Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

Metro used buses to ferry commuters between Union Station and Gallery Place, the stations on either side of the Judiciary Square station, Farbstein said. The station was reopened and trains resumed travel through it about 9 p.m., Metro officials said.

It appeared that the brown glass vial was thrown against the wall or stepped on behind the station manager's kiosk, authorities said. The station is beneath a complex of D.C. and federal courts and city offices and is about a half-mile from the Capitol.

Nobody saw the vial being broken, Etter said. He said a call was made after someone discovered the broken glass and powder.

D.C. hazardous materials crews found elevated levels of radiation near the powder and later determined that the abnormal reading was harmless, Etter said.

beginning with the secretary of state and followed by the treasury secretary, defense secretary, attorney general and the homeland security director,

I don't like the order of succession. Treasury and Att Gen should be LAST.

The Cornyn bill is very, very interesting. If something took out the Pres & Vice Pres we would go into martial law, I would imagine given the times...and the disparity between the two political parties has grown to the extremes of two totally different ideologies ( with the democratic party now being socialist.) The Constitution wouldn't survive unscathed.

"X-class solar flare at 2:03 GMT on Feb. 26th"

It was still the 25th here when it flared...that one goes in my shibbolith pile too. How soon do we know if communications will be zapped?

what makes this interesting is that the Hudson at that location is iced over right now

That makes this story interesting indeed. I know Daleel is a jerk and we shouldn't put too much stock into what he says, but... in his latest message he opened with a statement: "let me break the Ice" (ice capitalized). Also mentioned that a preemptive strike would come from the north. Some of us here have been speculating Canada and that maybe their preemptive plan is to strike a power plant up near the Canadian/U.S. border, put us in the dark and then hit us. This may be far-fetched, but I keep thinking about the 100 men for 100 stairwells and remembering back during the August blackout everyone evacuating the 40 floors of my office building backed up on the stairwells in the dark. Just one of those weird things that sticks in your mind I guess.

You are correct E-Coli, it is.

Richwood Meat Company, I found it at Google news, under recalled meat as a search.

Went to our Japan bases and western stores.
