February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Maybe we can also just ask the recruits if they are illegal aliens. But, I wonder if that is a violation of another "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

When these enlistees have the ability to be spies for foreign governments, or terrorists, hellbound to thwart our troops at every avenue, their rights cease to exist. If we need to do background checks on them prior to active duty, then we need to implement those checks. My oldest son was in the military years back. On his enlistment paperwork I saw a statement that his body belonged to the military and no longer belonged to his family during his term of military service. This isn't a matter of don't ask, don't tell - it's a matter of life or death of our troops and success of our military missions. Are we a strong military or a condescending military? If these are illegal enlistees, they have no rights - at least not in this country - plain and simple.

Court records say that Ali is the owner of several corporations that operate gas stations here and in New York. The names of his stations were not disclosed.

Ill-fated boat made sudden turn just before accident

The man at the helm of the offshore supply boat that collided with a freighter and sank on Feb. 21 at the mouth of the Mississippi River needed help maneuvering the meandering waterway, a taped radio conversation revealed.

The Lee III’s helmsman -- it wasn't clear Wednesday whether that was the captain or mate -- said he was nervous and confused.

Capt. Baldemar Villarreal Jr. and mate Daniel Lopez Jr. died in the wreck, along with the three other crewmen aboard the 175-foot vessel. Family members may testify later to help identify the voice on the tape.

The radio conversation came about an hour before the accident, after the Lee III had passed a tug and barges and was preparing to pass a small tanker.

"I'm kind of like caught in a situation here," the man guiding the Lee III said to the mate on the tanker Stone Buccaneer. "I'm not pretty sure who's who and what's what here."

Wes Brown, mate on the Stone Buccaneer, testified that the Lee III helmsman seemed confused about the river's east and west banks. He said such confusion is common among people who have little experience navigating the lower Mississippi, which twists and turns in various directions before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico.

Earlier testimony indicated that Lopez had almost no experience navigating the Mississippi and Villarreal somewhat more -- 28 days in the previous year....

Doesn't that just want to make you scream. I am still puzzled about the 4 Maldivian student pilots who flew into a small Texas airport halfway between Ft Worth and President Bush's ranch yesterday. Had BBQ, then went to check out getting Texas Id's using many other various id's of their own which gave the clerk reason to be suspicious. (Why fly to a small town to get Texas identification??) When she went to get a trooper two ran back to the plane and two drove back in the golf cart and they took off quickly.

When the FBI picked them up in Ft Worth they decided they were not terrorists. Of course not to mention that Maldives does have a muslim population. Also one of the best places in the world to learn to dive!!

This is another story like the BASF incident, all the missing and dead divers, the ship explosion and other stories which will just fade away.

I know Kingston well. This is news to me, but I'M not surprised. According to several LEO that I am friendly with, there have been several AQ types from the Hudson Valley that have been plucked since 09.11. At one of the pubs that I frequent, there are a bunch of ME types that show up every few weeks or so, where they hang at a back table and drink beer and talk non-English. A few weeks back, I asked one of the guys if he wanted to play darts and when he said "no," one of my friends asked him when he was going to try to kill us. Suddenly he spoke no English.

One of these files purports to be an audio tape of Bin Laden. I've listened to it once now - it's over 46 minutes long. I have some preliminary impressions but I am going to reserve making them public until morning when I will have time to listen to this again.

The second file is a zip file containing a speech given by Mullar Mohamed Omar on 27/12/1424, approximately 2 weeks ago in both PDF and DOC format.
