Governments across Western Europe are rolling up the welcome mats.

The stunning decision by the Dutch government to expel an estimated 26,000 rejected asylum applicants last week was only the latest in a series of actions by European Union countries to tighten border controls and limit immigration to some of the world's most generous social-welfare states.

"The vast majority of immigrants are industrious, courageous and determined," Mr. Annan said. "They don't want a free ride."

Maybe not, but if unchecked they will cause cultural death to the receiving nations (including ours).

This wave of illegal immigrants has threatened western culture in an unprecidented way. Everyone has to get a handle on this. If people have to stay in their own countries, they will do what is necessary to make their lives better. If they can run off to another country, and are given free room and board, free health care, and even walking around money, guess which way they'll go.

Far better that they participate in improving their own country.

Western Europe is actually smarter than the US of A. We're just accepted 7000 Liberians via the infamous UN repopulation scheme. Great.

they will do what is necessary to make their lives better.

Bingo. But our leaders would rather allow them to pick our pockets. Enough is enough.

I figured Holland would come to this. It was one of the most liberal European states in terms of immigration and has paid a very dear price for it. Those who came simply did not assimilate, even partially. In a land where sex is easily available (red-light Amsterdam), rape incidents rose dramatically, and there was soon no way to deny that the vast majority were committed by Arabic males. Then when their PM was murdered by an Arabic male for his political beliefs, and said male had the gall to say he should be set free and did nothing wrong. Is this the type of "culture" the West wants to import?
