Republicans drummed Max Cleland out of the Senate.
Wrong boyo! It was the voters of Georgia who drummed Max Cleland out of the Senate. If Cleland had been a Democrat in the mold of, say, Zell Miller, he would have had a Senate seat for life.

And maybe if Max's Daddy taught him not to pick up grenades lying on the ground he wouldn't be in a wheelchair today.
Sorry folks you can flame away but if they can throw bile so can I. Cleland is no war hero, he was not injured in battle. Yes he was injured while in service to his country and that's a shame but that doesn't inoculate him from all critisism.

After he had been nominated by Bush, Cleland was sworn in as a director of the U.S. Export-Import Bank in December. He sure didn't seem to be angry enough at Bush to refuse this nomination.

"If he'd gone to Vietnam maybe he'd have learned some lessons," snapped Cleland, who lost three limbs in that war.
The National Guard training probably adequately covered the safe handling of grenades.

THIS REPORTER IS REPEATING A LIE. CLELAND HIMSELF HAD ADMITTED IN THE PAST HE WAS NOT IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE WHEN THE GRENADE WENT OFF. HE WAS HANGING OUT WITH SOME FRIENDS AND BEER. THIS CAMPAIGN IS BRINGING TOEHTER A BUNCH OF LYING LOSER DEMOCRATS.

We all know Kerry won medals. His Silver star was won by killing a wounded enemy. He then came back and admitted war crimes. He demonstrated against vetrans and the war.
Kerry's record in the Senate is to vote against the military complex. His wife supports Iraq war demonstrators.
Does anyone know what I missed? Can we blame Kerry for not wanting to discuss his record?

From what I can tell, Cleland was in the combat zone in Vietnam for any even shorter period of time than Kerry was.
He had been a general's aide stateside. Then he went to Vietnam as part of the Signal Corp.
During the siege of Khe San, he volunteered to go to the front. The records seem murky, but he only seems to have gotten there sometime around the first of April.
April 8th he picked up the grenade that blew him up.

"If he'd gone to Vietnam maybe he'd have learned some lessons,"I'm thinking this latest tact on their part is going to infuriate a lot of people who didn't actually go to Vietnam but served in other ways.

Well said. They can flame me too, but I think you accurately called it.

He's going full bore for Kerry; he's going to destroy anybody and anything in front of Kerry's march to the White House.
And I'm wondering what he's going to get out of this: Sec Def?

"For her to say he was not in a combat zone ..." Wolden said of Coulter. "Thirty feet away from him were 50 Marines in a foxhole separating him from three divisions of North Vietnamese."
The libs live to lie. Coulter said no such thing.

No flames from me. I find it very hard to say anything bad about him because of what happened to the poor guy. And that's unfair because I think he hides behind that a little. Still, I couldn't wish that on my worst enemy, islamists excepted.

Apparently, in the eyes of some, if you are a Democrat and served in Vietnam with some kind of distinction or injury, you automaticaly deserve election to high office regardless of any positions you currently hold. Fortunately, the Georgia voters felt differently. Hopefully, the country as a whole will, too.

"John (Kerry) and I shed some tears in his office," recalled Cleland, who said he has yet to recover emotionally from the election loss.
Over an election loss?!
Girls.
