[history]
The new chief of also-ran cable news network MSNBC, Rick Kaplan, brings with him two decades of broadcast news experience at ABC and, more recently, three years of cable news work at CNN.
But the first point Kaplan made after being appointed to the beleaguered network last week was that he didn't plan any quick fixes.

Chrissy Matthews is a liberal hack as displayed by his current lovefest with John F'in Kerry. I prefer the Golden Girls on Lifetime in that time slot.

MSNBC should have known they were in trouble once they learned that their top-rated show is actually a telecast of Don Imus' weekday morning radio program.

What are Dennis Miller's ratings? At least he is entertaining. I have a feeling that the "news" people at MSNBC don't want to talk about his ratings because the "comedian" is probably doing as well as any of the "hard hitting journalists."

(By contrast, Kerry's rival Sen. John Edwards named The Shawshank Redemption as his favorite flick, and Matthews approved: ''It's something an average middle-class guy would say.'') GWB's was "Field of Dreams."

If Kaplan pays attention to this and follows this advice, he's doomed to fail.

I love to take on people who come on with what they think they have gotten away with 50 times before and stop them in their tracks. Oh, yes Chrissie, you are soooo tough! I am sure John McCain equates a "Hardball" appearance with a night landing in an F4 on a tossing deck.

Someone needs to tell Peter Johnson that the rug burns he got on his knees from writing this piece of drivel are not something to be proud of. I hope Chrissy let him smoke a cigarette afetr he was finished.

I do watch Chris Matthews. He can drive me crazy, but I have to say, I do think he is an old school democrat(read- honest). He has said he likes Bush personally, and voted for him in 2000. He and GW have something in common - they both gave up drinking. That's a bond - Chris' words.
Last week he made me nuts, replaying the Viet Nam war all over again, and I turned him off a few times. I probably should have hung in there, but it seemed like he was holding Kerry up like some God. I could be wrong.
His new lineup of commentators, Ron Reagan and Trippi - I don't like. Pat Caddell is a much better and reasonable (honest) voice for the dems. Young Ron Reagan strikes me as a punk - and he doesn't know what he is talking about half the time. Pat Buchanan rarely impresses me either. Peggy Noonan can rarely get a word in when she is on - she's too mild.
I wish Chris would have on Mark Steyn to debate our side - that would ensure Chris #1 ratings IMHO. They should try to get Ari Fleisher too. Chris' rating would go through the roof.
Just MHO, about the people I'd like to see on Chris' show.
To: baseballmom
Loud mouth will never get any of those conservatives to do his show because he wouldn't be able to spread the dnc talking points of the day.
And if Kaplin thinks that Mathews is the answer to his prayers (as if he prays) to getting higher ratings for psmnbc than he is nuttier than Dean. Their ratings will continue to tank until they realize the American people are smarter than they think. The people KNOW they are spinning and don't want to here it anymore.
To: Pikamax
Matthews and Olberman are both unreconstructed RATS and don't even try to conceal their biases. I can't stand either. Scarborough is doing fine. I hope he wipes them both off the ratings map.
