If the AWB expiration is your litmus test for freedom then join both the NRA and GOA. Pay the dues and give an extra $30 to $100 to help them lobby for your right.

I've done this for years as I figure it is the price I must pay to enjoy the use and ownership of my firearms. I can't protect the 2nd Amendment all by myself and we need the power of a group of like-minded citizens.

If Feinstein had her way, such as she would under a democratic president, all future sales of semi-autos would be banned.

So then the 'post-ban' models would become the new 'pre-bans', and your 'pre-bans' would become either:

A- even more valuable, or
B- illegal as hell, something you can never show to anyone

They will never rest, never be satisfied until ALL private ownership of guns is banned. When they say 'hey, I don't want to impose on the legitimate rights of recreational hunters or target shooters', grab your wallet and load your rifle.

I worked in Jeb Hensling's office. I was joined by two other NRA members. We also worked at the Dallas area Republican Victory Center.

I became a conservative after I suffered at the hands of the political police at the University of Michigan while in college.

I became a Republican motivated by the events at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

I voted Republican not because I thought the Republicans were my perfect saviors, but that at least if worse comes to worse, we will still be free when we (the useless eaters like you and me) are still effectlively armed.

I want to avoid armed conflict and live in peace. The Democratics seemed hell bent on disarming me, while the Republicans seemed to actually want to preserve my shrinking rights.

Instead, it seems the Republicans merely used Gun Control to gain votes and power in the same sick way the Democrats use the killing of unborn babies to get votes and power.

I am not giving up, I am just changing tatics from the voting box to the ammo box.

If the AW ban is extended, the expansion is right behind it. That expansion includes my Siaga, among other 'weapons'.

Who ever comes for my guns will be treated like I would treat any criminal who attempts to take my property, regardless of their title or elected position.

I'm a lifetime member of both the NRA and GOA and always (and only) vote for pro-gun candidates. Not everyone has the time to work as a hardcore activist.

If the NRA didn't have a past record of compromise I'd readily be giving them the benefit of the doubt. But as it stands, I'm skeptical.

I have a better idea, offer to allow the criminals to keep their guns if the come forward to be registered and pay a fee (fine). Then after 3-5 years they turn over their guns and then have to legally obtain them. Think that will work?

They may. I think the better analogy would be to go after the auto makers for the use of vehicles in crimes.

Bush signs this bill, and I'll vote a straight Rat ticket. What the hell's the difference.

Why should anybody believe that you'd oppose the Rat agenda (including the AWB), when you are so willing to put the Rats in power in the first place?

On the contrary. There is nothing on the ballot to tell Bush that you felt betrayed. And because the AWB was enacted by the Rats, voting for them instead, even if it is out of spite against Bush, tells them (assuming they win) that people like you want the AWB to remain law.

Congressmen, do the right thing and let this bill die! Remember 1994 and what happen to those in office at the time this bill became law for 10 years. Ask Tom Foley, speaker of the House, at that time. I believe his quote was, if we vote for this, we will lose the House of Representatives, to the opposing party.

You are totally ignorant of politics. If we don't work to get the candidates into office, we don't have a majority. If you don't have a majority, we start to lose. If we start to lose, we have to compromise.
When we have the votes, we don't have to compromise.

The Dems have no leverage. The AWB sunsets in September. If they try to make an issue of it, then they undermine the position that their presidential candidates wish to make, that they are not against guns.

Cause for some people (like me), this subject would be the same as Bush handing over the military of the USA to the UN.

But there's nothing on the ballot that would tell Bush that his signing the AWB extension into law is like his handing the military to the UN. All that will be shown is either he wins or the Dems win. If the Dems win, then that will tell them that people, such as yourself, approve of their agenda including the AWB extension.
