Nope, that's too deep for most nincompoop redneck, beer-bellied, Wal-Mart shoppin' potential Kerry voters. The first thing I say to these types is: "Oh, you are voting for Kerry? I didn't take you for someone that supports homosexual marriages." Then I watch them slip in their own saliva.
The mindset I see is the farther away, the less "accountability" is required. It's easier to fool the bureaucrats in D.C. than the bureaucrats in, say, Austin. Or worse yet, a locally run dole that will likely be more adept at culling out deadbeats. For example, local churches are really pretty good at separating the wheat from the chaff. But of course the gummint has taken over the role of the church. Damn shame.
...even a bunch of Lib'rals I know agree that government is best which is nearest the governed...who needs a Federal Nanny when we can have 50 State Nannies instead?!
To that I would say, your liberals are more conservative than my liberals. The bigger "big brother" is, the better. And besides, from a poll I saw on FR(?) a couple years ago(who knows who or where), something like half the respondents thought the Fed gummint had its own money. They are either totally clueless about governance or, well, totally clueless. Can you imagine half the populace not understanding that taxes are the source of gummint funds? THAT'S scary.
Thing is, some of those States are gonna be run better than others, and good folks will flee from the poorly-producing ones while converging upon the well-run ones.
In good time I suppose. It's taken decades, but didn't NY and Kellyfornia, amongst others, just about "welfare" themselves into bankruptcy? And, they've got double trouble now, apparently the (good)people and companies are deserting like rats from a sinking ship. But what of the damage done in the interim???

I don't care how much money I gotta spend,
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.
Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...
Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.
Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...
Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.
Because my baby just a-wrote me a letter."

Can hear it as if it were yesterday.
Youth.
...wasted on the young.
If they say that, ya got'em!! There's an ol' sayin' "Only bureaucRATS love the bureaucracy!!" Ain't that right, 'Dru?!
Fact is, States already run most of the Federal Programs as it is, so Block Granting the funds to the States ain't really all that scary to folks. The rules are already in place, and States should be given the authority to adjust those rules and regulations as they see fit, so there is really know need for a Environmental Protection Agency if you've got 50 States Protecting their own environment!! Same way with Education Spending...sure, I agree with standardized testing, but we don't need a Federal Dept. of Education when we've already got 50 State Dept. of Education!!
Devolve Power...again and again and again!!

Gawrshh...ya make the RightWing sound like a buncha braindead Bubbas and Bernadettes, I give my fellow voters a little more credit than that, my FRiend.
"Marriage" is a holy union between one man and one woman...everything else simply ain't "Marriage"!! But it's really not a political platform, imho.
FReegards...MUD
Gawrshh...that's a pretty simple take, huh.
Much of the righ are -- in fact -- braindead and I for one will be sweating my stones off over what these morons will do come election day, as well should you. ;^)
"'Marriage' is a holy union between one man and one woman...everything else simply ain't 'Marriage'!! But it's really not a political platform, imho."
HA!!
We'll just see about that.
{g}
...& ya know what *g* means when it's given to you, eh? :o)
Hey, this is from a State where a GOP Governor won purely on his "No Car Tax" platform wherein he never elimianted the Car Tax...I don't underestimate the VotingPopuli's ability to be manipulated by simple concepts, but I just think we can aim fer a higher plane than making this some sort of AntiGay Platform.
Just my opinion...MUD
HA!!
See?
"I don't underestimate the VotingPopuli's ability to be manipulated by simple concepts..."
Yes, easy to see you've reached *40*.
*Excellent*.
"....but I just think we can aim fer a higher plane than making this some sort of AntiGay Platform."
Sure we [read: you & I] can, Mud.
But never underestimate the himbos & bimbos who're voting in 2004 America, either.
There're a HUGE number of 'em who're -- apparently -- poised to take the side of -- any -- nation instead of their own in the upcoming election, as atested to in Spain.
I only say that based upon the fact Liberal-Socialists are the same no matter what country they hail, so, I know what the United States' Liberal-Socialist thinks *&* how they'll vote -- for me -- is a no-brainer.
Now is that something I relish knowing?
No, not a'tall.
But I know it, just the same.
"Just my opinion...MUD"
...& a good, sane opin, at that.
As opposed to US sophisticated intellectuals...LOL!! I just got back from the gym and am enjoying a cold 22 oz. Icehouse and a big ol' chaw of Skoal Longcut Wintergreen as I FReep!! And I can't wait 'til Wednesday night when I getta cruise on down to Nags Head so as to sit in front of the TeeVee and watch non-stop tourney action knowing I've got a big NCAA pool payoff hinging on every game!!
YUP, I'm a himbo, too...MUD
Heh heh heh...MUD
Heh heh heh...MUD
Admittedly, that *is* pretty funny.
"I just got back from the gym and am enjoying a cold 22 oz. Icehouse and a big ol' chaw of Skoal Longcut Wintergreen as I FReep!!"
HA!!
As if I couldn't tell Icehouse was involved given your spelling gaffs! :o)
But don'cha think it's a bit late for working out?
How in the world do you ever get to sleep with all the endorphins flowing?
Only *one* thing I know of can get me to relax enough to sleep after that kind of strenuous stimulus, and she always raises hell about being awaken. :^)
"And I can't wait 'til Wednesday night when I getta cruise on down to Nags Head so as to sit in front of the TeeVee and watch non-stop tourney action knowing I've got a big NCAA pool payoff hinging on every game!!"
Well I'd never bet on golf; however, I'm looking forward to watching The Masters, myself.
...plus a few other things I've slated.
Scares the bejeebers out o' me! The first problem is there should be no block grants to start with. The feds siphon off taxes via witholding(how many REALLY pay attention?) that the states know they couldn't get away with in direct taxes. Too close to home. Talk about your Austin tea party!
In any case, it's not a matter of winning the argument, these people aren't interested in facts or the truth of the matter. Honestly, I've even had people put their hands over their ears in mock(?) gesture of "I don't want to hear it". They're gettin something from uncle Sugar and that's all they care about. The Constitution and Bill of Rights has no meaning to these people.
The good news is, these aren't the people that swing elections. It's the middle-of-the-roaders that swing elections IMO, and for the most part they are open to suggestion. Freep on...
