If Condi does go on the ticket, it only happens if Cheney steps down due to health or other considerations.

But I have never assumed that Condi would bring in a tide of black voters. That's not what she would be used for. She would be used to go after white working women and middle class professional women. An individual like Condi would help with moderates. The only place she would not help would be with black voters. They hate Bush, by and large.

Still, whoever is running with Bush this year, I bet Bush gets up to 15% of black voters this year. Bush always runs better with minorities the second time around.

It isn't a theory. think about it. Why are Cheney's negatives so high? Because every lib blames the entire problems of the Bush administration on either Cheney or Rove. This implies Bush is just a puppet controlled by Cheney and Rove. That is simply not the case.

Moreover, the negatives are high on Cheney because people misunderstand his role in the administration. Cheney has brought together a very tough military team and defense department. he has assisted in holding the state department and their misguided principles in place.

Finally, Cheney's importance and his intelligence will come out in any VP debate. To write him off because "his negatives are too high" is simply benighted and shortsighted.

I won't question his intelligence but I do his judgement. There may be nothing wrong with doing it but I wonder what his thought process was when he went duck hunting with A. Scalia last month? It's about perceptions.

I think my main point for thinking "Condi", was the historical factor. How disasterous for Democrat spinners of the future to have to acknowledge that the first black, and first female vice president was a Republican.

And I agree that Condi would not bring in droves of black voters.

Someone else, or maybe a couple of repliers, reminded us all how unpopular Rudy would be with the right, far right, and Bush's natural base voters. That is definitely a consideration, but hopefully these voters would weigh all issues and how very little a VP has to do with social issues. If they thought of it, I bet they'd admit Cheney and Guiliani hold similiar positions on those divisive issues, and agree that Cheney's personal position has zip effect on President Bush.

The problem with Rudi is that he is flagrantly pro-abortion and flagrantly pro-gun control. Condi is a libertarian on guns and believes in restrictions on abortion rights, but is not altogether for repealing Roe v. Wade. That's much more palatable to the base.
