Examples of the slippery slope can be found at The Corner, from Stanley Kurtz @ National Review -
I think Lockyer just threw California to Bush in November.
Is gay marriage a weapon of Mass. destruction?
Title 1, General Provisions Chapter 1, Rules of Construction Sec. 7. - Definition of ''marriage'' and ''spouse''
In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word ''marriage'' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word ''spouse'' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife
Title One is positive law, which means the legal beagles have gone over it, and determined the meaning and phraseology is constitutional, and reflects the original statutes.
--if you walk into any agency or bureau of the United States (the federal government), this is the definition they are bound to obey.
-more-
Makes you think, doesn't it?? Just look at the Mayor in California. If everybody starts doing what they want and breaking laws?
Note date:
Yet weve reached a point where some of them no longer find just being left alone satisfactory. They want societys imprimatur, its explicit approval that their way of life is legitimate. Oscar Wildes "love that dare not speak its name" has turned into a lifestyle that wont shut up.
The homosexuals and their enablers stayed on message throughout - it was ``a civil-rights issue.'' But that lie was exposed by the way they ran out the clock, with Sen. Brian Joyce, an empty suit's empty suit, filibustering to deny the electorate an opportunity to vote, which is also a civil right.

Sorry for the bad "hook into the story"- the old ad copywriter in me knows the first rule is to get the audience's attention.
Anyway, here's some of what I found about this noisome subject.

It is definitely an issue that will kill the Dims. It's the one issue that they are defending that will destroy any chance of winning because they are so strong on commitment to this issue.
Wedge issue? You bet. But President Bush has got to follow thru and amend the constitution. If the GOP just talks about how they are against it, that wont work, they must do something about it. Sure we all know that any constitution amendment will
take a long time, but at least they made a move toward it and that will make people happy. Especially since the Dims will oppose it.

Thatta girl Eileen Goodman - keep it up! You're helping Americans find out what liberals are really made of. Keep on bashing America and attacking traditional values. You are a conservative's dream come true and we couldn't make up a better portrait of liberals if we tried. Go on, keep turning off the middle from here until November.

Is anybody as disturbed as I am to see a bureaucrat tossing aside the law by which he is supposed to be governed? If this is an acceptable attitude, what separates us from Haiti or Venezuela?

--while I suspect this whole noxious movement will have unintended consequences, backlash, and other things the Gay Marriage folks never anticipated, it should never have been allowed to come this far.
When the subject was first broached in the national conversation ( when? 1998? ) it should have been laughed, ridiculed, and hounded into extinction.
If you need to see where this leads, look up hate crime laws in Canada, where merely criticizing gays has become illegal. That's where they want to take America. It's time to kick back.

(Grand Rapids, February 20, 2004, 8:07 a.m.) Jaeden Wagner admits she's a little young to get married. But that won't stop her and her partner from showing up at the county building Friday morning to apply for a marriage license. The Grand Valley State sophomore says she's entitled to the same rights as everyone else

The sewer overflows:
This is the Pandora's box that most liberals insist on opening with this gay marriage thing. Ten years ago, this guy wouldn't have been able to leave his house had he publicly stated his perversity back then. Now he represents just one of many emerging "alternative lifestyles." Who knows what kind of perversion will come out of the woodwork next in an effort to gain acceptability in our brave new "Sodom-and-Gemorah" world.
RICK SANTORUM WAS RIGHT!
Here comes the deluge part II--
These "child rights advocates" are all over the web, including International Planned Parenthood Federation Youth Manifesto:

Well, the King is a reluctant one, but this is without question a culture war, and I do not believe in fence-sitting.
If the issue was merely one of simple purely legal parity, I would side with the gays.
It isn't, so I don't.
