The IDF releases for publication the name of an IDF soldier, Staff Sergeant Netanel Habshush, 20 years old, who was killed in the murderous suicide bombing attack which took place this morning in Jerusalem. His funeral will take place this evening, February 22, 2004, at 20:15 in the military cemetery of Mount Hertzel.

Sorry for the confusion. We were all up real late in this part of the world.

What I was trying to convey is the political scenario here in the US today. The groundswell of support and interest for the Nation of Israel is at an all time high within a core constituency of the Bush Administration and they know it. The senior Pastor of our church has been invited almost a half dozen times to the White House, whether for policy briefings, or recently, to teach Bible studies with the White House staff members.

"Evangelical" Christian supporters of Israel, and indeed, a lot of other Christians who don't fit that pigeonhole, and their various organizations, are wielding an incredible amount of influence, and it's growing every day. I know. I'm seeing it. I know how extensive their reach has grown through the Internet, radio, publications, teaching tapes and CD's, and the content of their regular teaching services through the week. Israel is the subject at hand. The phenomenon is being mirrored in the interest in the release of The Passion movie.

Has it impacted the visible Bush Administration policy? No, but that's due to the incredible amount of crushing pressure on the Bush Administration from counter-forces around the globe—and in our own country—which are latently hostile toward the US, and by proxy, Israel. But that's never going to change, only aggressively opposed, sword and shield, hammer and tong, in The Arena.

My point is, if Sharon and Israel moved aggressively to resolve the Ramallah problem today and it looked like the Bush Administration was even going to look at Israel cross-eyed, this massive constituency would go off on them like a political bomb in their own backyard. I know, because I would be just one of many—many—spearheading it.

This is the political capital Sharon and Israel have today. If, G-d forbid, Bush loses the White House in November, they will see this influence and advocacy greatly diminished in the face of a godless Clinton/Albright type of policy direction which still lies in the black heart of the "progressive," global socialist heart of the Democratic party and the UN/EU.

That's what Sharon is frittering away with "walls," and "settlement removals" and "withdrawals," which are only temporary—and useless—responses to a much deeper problem, which is handled in a way that few are willing to face. When it is rationally and objectively faced, the proponents are attacked and ridiculed as "extremists" and "warmongers" and "haters" and "far right" ideologues. But that isn't going to change either, even in the face of sheer logic.

But face it they must. Because it is facing them. And this attrition will continue until they do, these bombings and the IDF playing a relentless cat-and-mouse game with HAMAS and Fatah killers.

Israel and the US, corporately, are in a very critical time in their history, with opportunities irretrievably lost—and lives with them. Indeed, we should definitely vote for Bush; the alternatives are frightening. Yet, we know only One holds the future.

I do not confuse individuals who follow a faith with a handful of radicals who will justify killing and violence in the name of "religion".

People are angry. So things are said that almost nobody would really want as considered policy. For example, I can't think FReepers would want Israel to expel, for instant execution as collaborators, their many Moslem soldiers, including several generals. And, thank God, I don't hear about FReepers harrassing ordinary American Moslems as they leave their mosques. So I do not take the most extreme negative comments here about Islam or Arabs, comments that indeed should not be made, literally. Instead, my intrepretation of the red meat Israel suppoprters here is that they know that the Israelis need to be as free as possible to try whatever they need to try, and that the State Department should get out of the way.
