What did spot die of? I thought he was a young dog. OH how sad, and during these hard troubling times for our prez....DARN!:(

Sorry to hear of the passing of their beloved companion. Losing a pet for whatever reason is never easy...
I had to have an elderly furbaby euthanized a week ago, so I can really empathize with the First Family's loss. Letting Mr. Bear go was a severe mercy, but it had to be done. He'd lived the equivalent of over 120 human years and no longer enjoyed even his favorite treats and nothing comforted him.
When his time came, I honestly believe he was ready to go.
Damn this monitor of mine...always gets blurry when I write about him.

OMG, memories ... the other dog, brown and white looks like my childhood German Shorthaired Pointer. He will ALWAYS be in my heart. I still get warm fuzzes thinking about him.

I believe you're right!
Anyone know if the press release mentioned what Spot died of? Old age, complications of something?

"I remember the President stating that he carried Barney because he wouldn't behave as well to commands as Spot did."
I remember watching an interview with the President and First Lady. In that interview they had shown Barney chasing some poor guy as he walked into the WH....the dog kept nipping at his ankles. I couldn't stop myself from laughing.

Classic! Spaniels love tennis balls (well, I guess all dogs do). We used to have a Cocker Spaniel who would bark at joggers (or birds or squirrels or whatever) with a tennis ball in his mouth.

I made it to that poem. Now I AM crying.

Oh! What a shock.
She was very loved and was well cared for. I'm sure the Bush family is very sad over losing their beloved pet.
To: HairOfTheDog
This poem is so true. It's so very sad to lose a dog.
