An audit of the Atlanta Police Department has concluded that it has consistently underreported crimes for years. The audit found evidence of negligence and deliberate efforts to improve the city's image for tourism, possibly including the Olympics in 1996.
The report, by the management consultant firm Linder & Associates, painted a picture of a department mired in disorganization and increasingly besieged by 911 calls, some of which never got a response.
"We've not seen this sense of a condition of being overwhelmed in any other major city," said John Linder, president of the consulting firm.
Several police officers told the auditors that during the selection process for the 1996 Olympics "a concerted effort" was made to improve Atlanta's chances by underreporting crime to the point of discarding incident reports and improperly closing cases. Their claims have not been verified.
Violent crime that Atlanta reported for FBI national statistics in 2002 was 6.8 percent lower than it should have been, the study found. Reports for 22,000 responses to 911 calls in 2002 could not be found in department files.

This is the way you Democrat Party operates in America and it is leading us down a path of destruction.
There are all types of crimes that are never reported correctly and covered up but to be fair the Federal Government does the same thing and I think it may be at the request of Congress. This PC crowd and MO is destroying America from within!

Welcome to the Clinton era of "lowering crime". Just don't report it!
More Democratic BS and lies designed to make them look good.

Besides, wonderful brothas like Bill Campbell and all his cronies certainly have a right to define words like "negligence" as they see fit. (sarcasm off)

For some who don't remember, an idiot patronage worker for 911 completely screwed up a warning call about 1/2 hour before the Olympic Park bombing, which if properly handled would have given the police a chance to clear the area.
Corrupt ex-mayor Bill Campbell (once considered for a cabinet post by the Gore team) appointed to police chief Beverly Harvard, who had never walked a police beat, and only qualifications seemed to be she was his limo driver and kept her mouth shut about the illegal activities she saw him engage in.
