What is a Troll???? I was taught as a young child that a troll is a hideous creature that live under a bridge that wants to harm children.

Apparently, there are a few subscribers to Free Republic that consider themselves the Troll Patrol.

Some authors of Posts to the Free Republic website are accused of being "Trolls". These people, whom call themselves the Troll Patrol, are trying to intimidate Americans who are wanting to express their thoughts and concerns to keep their thoughts to themsleves. This is an attempt to enforce censorship or pressure someone not to express themselves.

I would like to say to the Troll Patrol that this in not the old USSR or Nazi Germany in the 40's. This is the United States of America and we do have freedom of speech in this country.

If you want to find trolls, I suggest that you visit Sherwood Forrest there are probaly a few lurking around.

However, if one supports said website with one's own hard earned dollars, does one earn the right to pretty much say what one wants?

Where is the terms of the contract does it say that?? Anyone who willfully gives money to support FR is supporting the website as it is, there is no special rules for those who donate and those who don't. Not yet, anyway.

If you donate a certain amount, I think you get a mug though =o)

Lots to learn here, Omnix. Welcome aboard. Stick around and don't sweat a little FRiendly mauling by the troll patrol (AKA Viking Kitties - meeeeow!). I won't bother to define troll as others on this thread have done a tremendous job at that. You can understand, I'm sure, that there is a big difference between merely holding and stating a dissenting opinion, and in trying to start meaningless, time-wasting arguments.

BTW, did I see on one of your other posts that you were in the service? If so, please accept my sincere gratitude! :-)

I'm more of a social darwinist, if you can't compete, too bad. Nothing beats a long drawn out flame war from time to time.

I don't mind them either, and folks that let themselves get baited into violating the house rules, as uncertain as they sometimes are, have only themselves to blame.

Glee at mass bannings is a whole 'nother pathology, though.
