[history]
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Senate approved a bill Thursday that would eliminate firing squad executions - used most recently here in 1996 - unless lethal injection executions are found unconstitutional.
The bill passed 16-9 and now returns to the House for approval of some minor Senate amendments.

Too bad. That's one of those quaint anachronisms I liked about Utah.

This bill needs to be defeated; for Mormon religious reasons it is essential that the condemned be allowed to elect death by firing squad if they wish.

Shooting is too noble for scummy murderers.
Get rid of the firing squad and bring back the rope!

The best and most Humane way to execute a prisoner is with an over dose of Heroin , I have seen many Heroin overdoses, they get happy and die. I have seen the drug Narcan used to save a Heroin overdosepatients and when the patient wakes up they are mad becuase you ruined their high. In most cases you wouldnt need an executioner , just leave the syringe filled with Heroin on the bedstand and they would shoot themselves up.

I sort of like the firing squad too,,remember when Gilmore got it, seemed appropriate. I do hope the Mormans aren't going soft on us. If they do, the Baptists won't be far behind and soon we will all be Episcopalians with PC services and Lord knows what.

Best keep the cheap death alternatives, since a bullet cost a quarter and lynching even cheaper.

Not to be too barbaric, but I prefer the idea of having a convicted murderer to be executed the same as they executed their victims. If they strangled them, death by hanging. If they shot them, firing squad. Etc etc.
By doing that, maybe when someone is about to murder, they will realize that they'll probably go out in a similar fashion, and maybe be deterred. Of course determent will occur if we actually started executing murderers.

for Mormon religious reasons it is essential that the condemned be allowed to elect death by firing squad if they wish. What wacky religous reason would that be?
