Interesting point. I know that the Bush states gained and the Gore states lost EV's, but I can't remember the number. I'll try to dig it up.

I'm with Barry here. I like Dubya's chances in NM. He lost by less than 400 votes last time, a snowstorm depressed turnout in some GOP areas, he's a proven leader and incumbent now, and Richardson and Bush have some similar characteristics.

Then there's voter registration. On the surface, it appears to be a huge Dem state. But the Presidential voting history shows otherwise. In 2000 the Dems had 508K to the Pubbies' 318K (Libs ~4K and Green nearly 12K).

In 2004 registration reflects 485K for the Dems (-23K for 52%) and almost 304K for the GOP (-14K, 33%), with 10K for the Greens.

So while both parties' voter registration declined, and the Green essentially remained the same, the GOP lost 9K less voters than the Dems. In a state decided by 400 votes...
