Good God, what a nut. The army is better of without him. Let him stay in Canada as a wanted felon...

So in other words, this soon to be "hero" of the left, basically didn't thumb through the brochures in the recruiting office, was never exposed to television or movies that had any references to an armed service, the concept of a "soldier" or what the job description was?
Let the Canadians have him and let his name never be spoken again in this country again.

As a vet, I find this puke's excuses disgusting. Canada can have him. If he ever steps over the border, I hope he gets caught and sent to Leavenworth.

The comment about Al Gore getting elected is telling about the Left's "disarm America" mindset.

Nobody said life in the military was easy. He should have known that when he signed on the dotted line.

They really should have a way out for poor folks like this.

I'm thinking, dishonorable discharge, public ridicule on base and a bill for all the training, background investigation and other things he received as a member of the military. No jail, just get the hell out.

I hope he gets caught and sent to Leavenworth.

I know that is possible. However, why feed and house this crybaby? Let Canada's welfare system deal with him.

"Hinzman admits he got in over his head. When he joined the Army, he said he was expecting Al Gore to be elected president. "

No wonder the boy has mental issues...he expected to be under UN rule with Al Gore and sit on a base somewhere to soak up taxpayers money

That's probably a little too blunt.

Probably not.

Need proof? He's a Quaker!

When he joined the Army, he said he was expecting Al Gore to be elected president.

Ha! Confirmation that most people DO think the Dems and/or Al Gore are soft on terrorism!

I was known as the liberal, and this is in a culture where everybody watches Fox News.

Man, this article is just FULL of good stuff, eh?

My one word description of this guy: pussy.

Please stop bashing Canada on this. Canada has a strong extradition treaty with the US. Anyone accused of an offense in the US, which is also considered an offence in Canada (IE murder, assault, desertion) is subject to arrest and extradition back to the US. At the time of Vietnam there was no draft in Canada, therefore avoiding the draft was not an offense in Canada and the draft dodgers could hide out here without fear.

Bona fide US Army deserters are deported back to the US. This guy did not do his homework. Perhaps he should flee to Cuba or Mexico.

"When you're at work you put on your game face, especially as a lower enlisted person," he said. "You don't really talk about the moral ramifications of what you're doing. Everyday discussion is kind of stultified."

The U.S. military is not a debating society. The day it becomes one, spells our doom. This kid has bought into the pseudo-intellectual claptrap that harms good order and discipline to carry out the fight we expect of people in uniform. We may very well be looking at the future John Kerry, say, 20 years from now. He shows all of the signs. I wonder where he threw his medals?

In Part 2 of this report, Hinzman tells about his failed effort to be placed in a noncombat assignment as a conscientious objector, and what the future looks like for him and his family in Canada.

Since there is no draft, why would there be a need for positions for conscientious objectors? They're all voluntary. Nobody forced them.
