Please stop bashing Canada on this. Canada has a strong extradition treaty with the US. Anyone accused of an offense in the US, which is also considered an offence in Canada (IE murder, assault, desertion) is subject to arrest and extradition back to the US. At the time of Vietnam there was no draft in Canada, therefore avoiding the draft was not an offense in Canada and the draft dodgers could hide out here without fear.

Bona fide US Army deserters are deported back to the US. This guy did not do his homework. Perhaps he should flee to Cuba or Mexico.

If you read what the guy actually has to say, and the basis on which he justifies his actions, he sounds exactly like -- if not more moderate than! -- the mainstream Democratic Presidential candidates, or Democrat leaders like Terry McAulife and Al Gore, or senior sitting Democrat representatives like Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi.
