Semper Fi! Now that I've got your attention - the most moving place I've been in DC is the first Marine Corp barracks near the Capitol. Perhaps some Freepers can give you the exact location. It is in SE, I think. Every Friday evening as the sun is setting they have a parade and close order drill as they take the flag down. Your congress person can get you tickets and sometimes there are rush seats. It is very moving to see hundreds of marines in their spectacular uniforms. Even more moving is when the band starts playing the Marine Corps Hymn and a third of the audience immediately stands at attention. I lived in DC for a few years and took in just about every site I could. This sunset event is the single most memorable one.

Annapolis is a great seaside town fun to walk around (and shop)... the US Naval Academy is beautiful. If you go, head to the Chapel and be sure to see the museum in the Chapel basement (John Paul Jones is entombed there)

Williamsburg is interesting; however, I would not miss Jamestown if you head down that way. It has not been commercialized and is very authentic.

Jamestown is defintitely worth the trip. Since its a working site (archeologically), You never know what you might get to see.

I'd also like to reccommend the Botanical Gardens (by the capital). It was a nice warm place to visit while we were there last week. Very nice, if you like that kind of thing.

I want to thank all the Freepers who have contributed to this thread! We've printed the whole thread and are in the process of highlighting and organizing all the great information to schedule out the trip! We couldn't have done it without you! What a helpful community you all are! I'll try to report back after the trip and let you know how it went! THANK YOU!
