[history]
A UC Berkeley journalism lecturer's 32-year-old photograph of future Democratic U.S. Senator and presidential candidate John Kerry has wound up in a forgery that suckered the New York Times.
Ken Light, head of the photojournalism program at UCB's Graduate School of Journalism, has found himself in the eye of a media and Internet storm after a clever forger inserted an image of Jane Fonda alongside his image of Kerry and posted the composite on the Internet.

You are so right michigander, I've been hanging onto an email about the UN for over a month trying to track down a printed/reliable source, but have been unable to find anything, so I haven't posted the thread. Doesn't seem that hard to me either. You were spot on!

Careful, John. He gets real testy when you ask that question.

Sorry about the formatting, but even as such you can see that you were quite wrong in your characterization of the NY Times article on the subject.
"Free Republic is as good as its participants are willing to make it."
My point exactly.

"The photo of Kerry with Fonda made us look like we were grasping at ANY straw to link the two together simply because it would be enough to discredit Kerry."
BTW, when you get a chance you might actually look at the thread in question and see how this was grasping at straws to put Fonda and Kerry together:

Not at all! I merely corrected her on her misstatements of facts.
We even agreed that the site is only as good as its participants.
Privately Unsycophant has sent me much helpful information and encouragement.

We even agreed that the site is only as good as its participants. That is a true statement.
As a matter of fact, that image was shown to be a crop job on this very site on 2/11/2004.
What do you feel that shows about your precious NYT article:

OK, everybody. This piece flat out accuses FR's Registered of having come up with the composite photo fake and distributing as a "dirty trick." I've skimmed this thread and read the original threads talking about this faked photo and, though Registered's name came up, it was never stated that he was in fact the author.
I'm afraid that this may be an intentional attempt to discredit the real photo, and any others that turn up, by Kerry's people intentionally creating and leaking a fake photo and then blaming it on FR.
What's the real story? Does anyone know, for a fact, that Registered created this photo? Did he do it and post it as a joke, letting folks know it was a fake?

Your performance was too convincing to be an a mere act though.

Registered did it. That's a natural fact, as some used to say.

What a burn! I am mortified!
In case you were trying to say that some at FR had cottoned on to it being a fake while the NY Times was still saying the source was unknown---so whateth?
Is that some kind of point or something? Do you have a point?
